Free Trial for Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode revealed, starts January 17th

Call of Duty battle royale became a reality upon the release of Black Ops 4 on October 12, 2018.  Ever since, Treyarch’s take on the “100 enter, one leaves” sub-genre has risen to a high status of popularity with many gamers and critics alike praising it as one of the best battle royale experiences available. Arguably un-seating the first mega-hit in the battle royale sub-genre, PUBG, Blackout seems to have taken a strong second place position underneath Fortnite depending on who you talk to. Since Black Ops 4 didn’t release with a story mode campaign though, there is a certain crowd of people who may have skipped the game. Now, starting January 17, 2019, Treyarch will offer a free trial period for Blackout which gives potential players a chance to see what they’ve been missing.

The Blackout Battle Royale Trial will run for a week, ending on January 24, 2019, and will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox, and PC platforms through their various online stores. In addition to this effort to drum up support for their flagship product, Treyarch has also created a Multiplayer + Blackout bundle on PC which does not include the game’s Zombies mode for $39.99.

Blackout was described as being a more enjoyable, more skill-based and challenging battle royale title than previous attempts made by other studios. In our Real Gamer Review of Black Ops 4 we felt it was a potent part of the overall package the full game offers.

Sadly, Black Ops 4 had an unreasonable microtransaction system added to it after release and this has given the title a bad name in headlines despite being one of the best COD games in years. Treyarch even tried to reduce the grind of their Black Market to save face. But later released a red dot cross-hair for $1 similar to the ‘piece of tape stuck to the TV’ method quick-scopers used in previous games Black Ops 4 is the second most top-selling game of 2018, second only to Red Dead Redemption 2’s record breaking $725 million weekend (the second largest entertainment launch ever, following Grand Theft Auto V).

Blackout features trucks, ATVs, helicopters, rocket launchers, assault rifles, machine guns, pistols, knives, various grenades, items and enemies from the Call of Duty Zombies franchise, wing-suits, items from the Black Ops 4 multiplayer mode, unlockable content including classic and new characters, and a lot more.
