This year’s E3 2019 showcase from Square Enix was perhaps their best yet at least by comparison to previous years. A variety of games were shown which weren’t expected and some which have been in high demand. Square Enix titles also appeared at Xbox E3 and Nintendo E3 so be sure to give those a look if you haven’t already for their full E3 lineup.
Here are some highlights from the Square Enix show including release date information, trailers,
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE
Release Date: March 3, 2020
Tactical, Action, RPG
Studio: Square Enix Business Division 1
Additional Work by Geomerics and Epic Games
There’s probably no way this game will make it out by March 2020 but the good news is we have now seen a lot of in-depth gameplay footage and it looks to be a solid hybrid mix of action and turn-based combat. With shot-for-shot HD remake quality players will switch between characters, issue commands, build up their Focus to perform breakers, deal bonus damage, and perform special moves.
Combat or item shortcuts have been added to the game, but players can choose how their controls are set up. Press got to play the game at E3 2019 by appointment and we’ve already been hearing positive feedback. There’s a lot riding on FF7 and Square seems to respect that and is putting all of the effort they can possibly muster into it.
Release Date: May 15, 2020
PS4, Xbox, PC, Stadia
Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal
Additional Work by Crystal Northwest and Nixxes
The crowd was pretty excited at E3 for the anticipated Marvel Avengers game to be revealed by Square Enix, which they did. The makers of the Tomb Raider series have been working on this game which has a new cast and its own unique story, but based on hands-on impressions seems to be a pretty well put together game overall.
