On February 11, 2020 when Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s Season TWO launched, a placeholder for a brand new game mode was added to the main menu. Many have prophesized the coming of Battle Royale to the 2019 remake of Modern Warfare, and it appears this moment has arrived. Currently showing up as “Classified” with a blurred out static imagery, this mode has now been allegedly leaked as Call of Duty Warzone along with footage of the gameplay from its training grounds / tutorial known as Warzone Orientation and takes place in the Armistice Training Facility.
To be fair, Warzone was actually teased in the Season TWO launch for Modern Warfare (revealed in-game), but many were unsure as to how exactly it would be packaged, what it was, and when we would get our hands on it. Some of this uncertainty can be blamed on the fact that Activision is allowing another Call of Duty Battle Royale to launch just after last year’s Blackout mode for Black Ops 4 (which had Zombies, Multiplayer, and Blackout rather than a story mode). Instead, here is a fully new release for owners of Modern Warfare.
Surprise, surprise though – even if you don’t own Modern Warfare, Call of Duty Warzone is free-to-play and you’ll be able to download it and play without owning the rest of the latest COD game.
Activision has removed this footage using YouTube’s copyright claim system. Battle Pass style system introduced for Call of Duty Warzone: $29.99 per season or $99.99 for a lifetime pass.
Beta testers (and glitched players gaining access) have began leaking the game on less filtered hosts such as Twitter which has eventually made its way into the underground gaming network of reporters, experts, passionate community members, and other various wise sages of the internet. We also have a bit of insight as to how the game will work.
