Here’s a lot more info about the 22 games from Nintendo Switch Indie World 2020 Showcase 3/17

With the way of the world shifting to live-stream events rather than in-person gatherings, Nintendo has been ahead of the game in digital presentation of their products to consumers for years. Their most recent presentation has released today with a slew of excellent indie games coming to Nintendo Switch this year (with a great number of them being exclusive / timed exclusive / etc).

The Indie World Showcase 2020 comes at a time when gamers will have Animal Crossing as the final first party Nintendo exclusive confirmed for the rest of the year. With recent rumors that flagship Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 could be delayed and a general concern over a drought on Switch as the result – Nintendo’s move to showcase Indie World right now will give a huge boost for a lot of great games that may have otherwise gone unnoticed by the larger market.

We encourage you all to take a second look at the games which were featured in Indie World 2020 and consider if the right fit for you awaits among these titles to help you fill the gap between games (and whenever you need a brief break from Animal Crossing)

Online First Person Shooter / Nimble Giant

Release: Late 2020

Combining clones who replicate your previous actions alongside your own live input gives way to new possibilities against opponents doing the same in Quantum League; a new kind of shooter. One vs One and Two vs Two matches are played on tight, small maps to get right into the chaotic action which must be dissected and analyzed by players in order to avoid crossfire and take out the real opponent.

Nimble Giant describes this as a ‘Time Paradox Shooter’ which is highly competitive and allows players to team up with their past and future selves. The art style and soundtrack certainly take a page out of Fortnite but gun design and overall concept are original. We look forward to seeing the potential for new takes on the genre, as always, and will try it out when we have the chance.

Mystery / White Owls

Release: TBA 2020

Described by its developers as a ‘Debt Repayment RPG’ this game takes place in what is called the ‘happiest town in the world’ but players will uncover a huge secret hidden under the surface. The secret is…

At night all residents of the town turn into dogs and cats!

This mystery title certainly lives up to the bizarre promise of variety and weirdness factor. Characters openly speak about aliens and generally act suspicious. There is also a high variety in the things players will get to do in The Good Life including control of animals, photography, various chores and tasks to earn money, detective work, sleuthing for clues, solve crimes, and much more.

Mystery / Hello Games

Release: Summer 2020

An emotional game from the creators of LostWinds (now part of Hello Games) is being presented as a Hello Games Short which takes inspiration from Pixar Shorts as a way to bring more creative projects to the industry through indie development traditions.

The newest trailer which was shown off by Nintendo presents us with a closer look at the game which was revealed at The Game Awards last year. Puzzles, narrative, and a heartfelt message appear to be the focus of the game which sees a character mourning its ancestors as they explore an unknown territory and learn about the past from its ruins. Rekindle your hope with The Last Campfire.

Action / Q-Games

Release: Summer 2020

A Japanese studio focused on gameplay-centric titles, Q-Games returns with a sequel to PixelJunk Eden which originally launched in 2008 for the PlayStation Network on PS3 during the height of Sony’s indie games craze. Characters engage in a one-of-a-kind arcade style gameplay loop while abstract and artistic visuals and soundscapes are presented in synchronicity to the action. We always admire works of art, especially when they are refreshingly unlike anything else we’ve played before, and this deserves a try.

Strategy Card Game / Abrakam + Versus Evil

Release: March 2020

Faeria is a card collecting game with elements of board games and turn-based strategy built in for a massive single player experience as well as multiplayer mode. Many fans of the game say that it doesn’t translate well to trailers, so you’ll want to definitely give this a play for yourself before deciding what to think of it.

Survival Horror / Bloober Team + Lionsgate

Release: Summer 2020

Towards the end of the Indie World 2020 event we were given a much quicker flash of various games which will make their way to Nintendo Switch this year. One of these was Blair Witch. This is a port of the game released in August 2019 for PC and Xbox by publisher Lionsgate Games and developed by Bloober Team. This game is a psychology based survival horror based on a 1999 film many may remember as one of the first pieces of viral content ever made, The Blair Witch Project.

The film debuted as an experiment in which three college students attempted to document a local witch legend only to disappear and have their footage found. The idea was that we were actually watching that found footage, and everything was a true event. Everything was recorded on a home camera giving the film a very creepy vibe and with only a $60,000 production budget the film grossed over $250 million making it an unprecedented success in global reach as well as profit.
