Nintendo Direct December 18th, 2013 [Full WrapUp]

From 9 AM – 9:36 AM EST this morning, Nintendo held their most recent Nintendo Direct covering both the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U.

3DS News

Kirby Triple Deluxe is the newest Kirby title and follows a similar formula to that of the series with 20 different powerups as well as a new ability, called Nova, that allows you to suck things in with intense power to create new paths. The game will have you travelling between the foreground and background and your enemies will be too. The game features a 4 player multiplayer combat mode and a rhythm minigame entitled Dedede’s Drum Dash. The game is due out in Spring of this coming year.

Yoshi’s New Island is the third Yoshi’s Island title, and is being directed by the same person who directed the original. It features a 3D graphical appearance on a 2D plain. It retains the same original formula as the SNES and DS titles but adds the large enemies creating large eggs and adding a “Mega Mario”-style portion to game play, destroying blockades and gaining extra lives using the larger than normal egg. The game is also due out in Spring of 2014.

Chibi Robo is back! After a long hiatus since the Nintendo Gamecube, the little robot is back in a downloadable title for the 3DS entitled Chibi Robo Photo Finder. The means of completing this game is by taking photos of things in real life for the Nostalgia Museum in-game. The game offers you shapes of objects and you find something to fit the shape. The trailer showed electrical outlets, baseballs and toilet paper as objects. As well, you will have to complete side quests for new characters through exploration and mini games. The game will be featuring community events and will start shortly after launch. The full game releases January 9th, 2014 with a demo releasing a little before launch.

More info regarding Poketransfer and Pokemon Bank is revealed. Pokemon Bank is the (paid) software that allows you to store up to 3000 Pokemon from the newest set of titles in the series (X and Y). Poketransfer, instead allows you to transfer and battle all your Pokemon from Black & White’s two separate titles (the first and second of each colour) in X and Y. Both are available December 27th. A free trial is available from launch to January 31st and anyone who accesses the application from launch until September of 2014 will be given Celebi whether or not you use the full or trial version, which I believe is the first time it has been offered to North America unless you had a cheating device.

Bravely Default was announced by Reggie Fils-Aime. It is a turn-based RPG, where the game offers a new way of powering your in-game self with Sleep Points, which offers you points based on how long you keep the system in sleep mode while having Bravely Default running. However, if you decide you can’t wait for SP, you can purchase them through a microtransaction (very disappointing that Nintendo has stooped that low, personally). SP allow you to get more powerful equipment, heal or revive followers or deal more than the highest attack cap in regular play. The game also has a Street Pass feature that allows you to summon people you have passed by while running the game in Sleep Mode, which is a cool touch. The demo, which is a separate story of the game releases January 2nd, 2014, with the full game releasing February 7th, 2014.

Wii U News

At the beginning of the Nintendo Direct, before 3DS was shown, we were shown gameplay for a cross-over title between Tecmo-Koei’s Warriors series and Nintendo’s Zelda series for a game with the working title “Hyrule Warriors”. The game is a hack and slash title, which is non-canon to the Zelda series. It looks like it will provide gamers a thing to play while waiting for the Wii U canonical Zelda as well as give options to people who do not enjoy Zelda as an adventure game. The game is set for release next year, with no set month or date given.

More gameplay of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is shown, with Donkey Kong and his three other partners: Diddy, Dixie and Cranky Kong, with each having unique abilities and the tag team special move, which is gained every 100 bananas collected. Diddy’s tag move turns all enemies into balloons, Dixie’s into gold hearts and Cranky’s into gold coins. The game is available February 21st, 2014.

Nintendo announced more content for Wii Sports Club, the remake of Wii Sports for Wii U. They now announced golf, retaining the original Wii course as well as a new one. They also announced you have a thirty day trial to the whole game including golf, which is officially released after the completion of Nintendo Direct (9:45 AM EST today)

Next Nintendo showed NES Remix, which melds gameplay from 16 NES titles into a WarioWare style game with new elements for each game. The game is also available as of now and is selling for $15.

Sega released one new FREE downloadable item for Sonic Lost World based on Yoshi’s Island and is available today. The gameplay shows art style of Yoshi’s Island and all the elements of the games mixed with Sonic’s gameplay. There is also one more DLC in the works but no details were shown. Check out our Sonic Lost World review here!

Unveiled next for Year of Luigi is Dr Luigi. Dr Luigi is a new downloadable title which takes the original Dr Mario, with an addition of a new mode with L shaped pill blocks. The game retains the same feel as the original and the WiiWare titles, with inclusion of a multiplayer mode but also adds this new game mode and the off screen mode that is your “pill bottle” or play screen as opposed to being on the television. It is set for release on New Year’s Eve, December 31st, 2013.

Lastly, we were revealed a new character for Super Smash Bros for 3DS and WiiU. That character was Rosalina, who is accompanied by Luma. No further details were given about Smash Bros, but rumours push towards a Spring/Summer 2014 release.
