Charlie Murder is an interesting title right away from first glance. It’s basically a heavy metal band experience. The catch is your band has to fight demonic beings such as zombies and even demons themselves using the power of hardcore metal. If you’re still wondering what I’m talking about then go ahead and turn on a nice track of ‘screamo’ while you take a read in our full Review brought to you by RealGamerNewz and Tristan’s Twisted World.
Soundtrack, Audio, Voice: Of course our heroes’ (I guess that’s what you call them) soundtrack consists of Heavy Metal since they are a Heavy Metal band. The good thing is it fits in very well and helps the combat flow if you ask me. This ‘Perfecto’ blend of the audio in this title as nothing overpowers anything else, unless you change the settings. The grunts of zombies and other enemies make it feel like the cut out art-style that it is drawn in. All together the soundtrack and audio definitely help complete the experience of Charlie Murder.
Graphics, Physics, Glitches, Engine Performance: The art-style feels very vibrant and dark which is fitting for the setting. Physics are what you would expect out of a beat-em-up title, this is a lot like what we’ve played in arcades. The game is very well polished, it seems as if the developers SKA Studios went through it more than a few times to make it the best possible experience they could. The game’s engine runs like a champ, SKA Studios seems to have the overall feel of the game under control. There were no glitches experienced during our play-through of the game.
Controls / Gameplay / CO-OP: Charlie Murder is incredibly simple and easy to learn. The controls are a standard ‘X for hit’ type of ordeal. Like I said it is a beat-em-up so the gameplay is thankfully not very hard to understand, at times it can be a challenge for some players though. This is especially true when a giant horde of enemies is surrounding you but that is why you have the ability for CO-OP and special attacks. While some enemies may even be a challenge for something like that, you can still build up your skill. You can even throw down on a drum solo or play around on your Windows 8 Phone, which is really fun and cool.
Story: The story begins with the players going to hell and having to fight demons but everyone is then quickly brought back alive by paramedics. After that point it seems you have to fight through hours of demonic hordes featuring fan favorites like the un-dead zombies. There are even parts were you get to drive vehicles and various other things. Charlie Murder is all about fighting robots, demons, zombies and whatever the story throws at you with your band fighting in the un-dead apocalypse (with guns of course).
Replay Ability: Moderately High
Final Verdict: Charlie Murder tries to bring the fun back in classic beat em up genre from the arcade days. Which I am glad to say it does and is enjoyable to see it do so. I give Charlie Murder a 9 out of 10 making it an RGN Gold Game.
Overall Score: 9/10
