Xbox 720 Specs and Details Leaked: Likely Digital Only

Sources from inside the Microsoft Xbox world have reportedly leaked the Xbox 720 specifications and details of how it will work.

The source who leaked the information wishes to remain anonymous due to non-disclosure agreements between Microsoft and themselves. This information is not to be released to the public until the Xbox 720’s official announcement.

  • AMD 8 Core x64 1.6Ghz CPU
  • 8GB DDR3 RAM
  • 320GB / 500GB Editions Available At Launch
  • 1TB Hard Drive Sold Seperately
  • No Blu-Ray Support
  • Kinect 2.0 Support
  • Xbox Smartglass Support
  • Xbox 720 Will Be Playable at E3 2013
  • Xbox GOLD vs Xbox 720: Name Not Decided Yet

The fact that no Blu-Ray drive is included strongly suggests and supports the potential for the Xbox 720 to be a digital only system allowing perhaps backwards compatibility with existing Xbox 360 discs but forcing gamers to get all of their games digitally from the Xbox Live Marketplace. The large stock hard drives also hint to this option and the absence of a SKU with no hard drive seems to indicate the games will be downloaded not streamed. This configuration, if confirmed by Microsoft’s April reveal, will also make it very likely that we will see the end of used games for the Xbox console.
