SDCC & Anime Expo 2018: New trailers for Tales of Vesperia, Spider-Man, and more

The San Diego Comic Con and Los Angeles Anime Expo events of 2018 played host to a few important updates on games that many fans are waiting for. Lego DC Super-Villains, Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, and Marvel’s Spider-Man were among the titles showcased at this year’s west coast events aimed towards comic book fans and the anime community.

Revealed at the Xbox E3 2018 Press Conference, fans of the Tales series have been demanding a remaster of this title for nearly a decade, and they’ll be getting it. Combining hand drawn art of excellent quality with a fully 3D game engine taken to modern 4K standards, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition will release for Xbox, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC some time during Winter 2018.

The following 4K trailer sheds more light on the story-line behind a game that was most people’s highlight for Sony’s lackluster E3 show this year (besides the Resident Evil 2 Remake of course, which looks awesome). Marvel’s Spider-Man releases September 7, 2018 and is a PlayStation 4 exclusive being developed by Insomniac Games (the team behind Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Sunset Overdrive).

In case you’ve been wondering what Insomniac Games has been up to they’re also currently developing Stormland for Oculus Rift due out in 2019 with another VR project called The Unspoken available now.

Telltale’s The Walking Dead series has been a phenomenon of narrative storytelling as it continues to be a blockbuster title which blurs the line between video game and interactive film.

There was recently an announcement that Telltale Games will have some of their games published through Netflix somehow, and although details remain to be seen on how that will work exactly, it’s not much of a stretch to imagine these games being playable as choose-your-own-adventure movies without a PlayStation or Xbox involved.

The long-running plot behind these games will conclude in the heavily anticipated TWD: The Final Season which has its first episode releasing for Xbox, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on August 14,  2018.

Lego DC Super-Villians releases for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox, and PC on October 16, 2018.
