Anomaly 2 PS4 Review

Anomaly 2 comes from 11 Bit Studios out of Warsaw, Poland their flagship series is of course the Anomaly series. Since Anomaly 2 came out last year it got reviewed originally on PC with a score of 8.7 out of 10. They also came out with Anomaly Defenders where for the first time the campaign was completely playable as the alien race and that was a great perspective. It also received a score of 8.7 out of 10 so there is a lot of great gameplay coming out of this series so should the user except the same level of polish now that’s it’s on the PS4 in full HD?

The year is 2034 A.C. most of the earth has been frozen over and the world population is unknown, machines have returned to earth and have the sole purpose to annihilate the human race. The user will take control of a small squad as they travel across the campaign, they will meet Doctor Zander with the help of his associates the user will have Project Shockwave which is the ultimate weapon against the machines. Anomaly 2 is reverse tower defense where the user is the one attacking. Throughout the course of the campaign the user will be the commander of a squad of six vehicles which all look pretty normal at first but as the user progresses and new strategies have to be taken into account, they will find that each vehicle can morph; such as the Assault Hound morphing into the Hellhound. Each of these transformations can be done by the click of a button and they also can turn the tides of the battle depending on what type of tower they are up against.

The machines have some great towers up their sleeves as well so don’t count them out. Examples of the machine towers are the Scorcher which has punishing damage but its flaw is that it can only shoot in a straight line, the enforcer which is relatively weak but has shield surrounding it during battle, and the Behemoth which is heavily armored and has shock pulses plus several others.

Anomaly 2 is playable on four different difficulty levels each of them providing the user with a good amount of challenge. Adapting to the situation is key in Anomaly 2 since scenarios change in game and then its up to the user to use the right kind of unit to survive against the machines. Anomaly 2 runs great on the PS4, the graphics are extremely crisp and beautiful the sound is amazing and is great through surround sound.

The game controls a lot better with the Dualshock 4 with everything taking a basic function with one of the buttons, all of the abilities are controlled with different directions on the d-pad while more of the squad control comes from the face buttons such as triangle, square, x, and circle. The movement is done with the left stick and camera movement with the right stick and this really just feels more natural. There is full multiplayer in the PS4 version of the game just like there was on the PC and from the several times looking for matches it takes a really long time to find a game and can cause the game to lock up your PS4 which happened on two separate occasions.

Anyone looking to pick this game up just for the multiplayer make sure to have another friend get it so that you can find a game, it seems that the multiplayer crowd might not be there yet but give it a few more weeks or a few more months and maybe a sale or something and there will be more copies and more users online.

Final verdict: Anomaly 2 is a great title and a great series there is a lot of game to experience from a long story that is extremely replayable with different difficulty levels and smarter AI. The movement of the game overall feels better with the Dualshock 4 it feels more natural and allows the user to fully submerge themselves in the game. The lack of multiplayer games out there is disappointing for now but it has the potential to get a lot better since the multiplayer is extremely fun and really addicting if user’s like to employ different types of strategy.

Anomaly Defenders Review

Anomaly Defenders is the final game in the Anomaly series and it sticks to its tower defense roots. Anomaly Defenders comes from 11 bit studios out of Warsaw, Poland. They are the guys behind all the other Anomaly games and they have done an amazing job with the series. For the first time, the user will be playing as the Aliens while humans are launching their counterattack against the alien home-world. It’s the best scenario playing as the alien race and defending the planet from the human scum of Earth.

Anomaly Defenders gameplay is straight up tower defense and for the last game in the series this game has some really good polish. The game revolves around putting towers down on a maze that is already pre-built with different levels of towers with different attacks. All of the towers are upgradable and there is 8 great towers, some of the betters towers than others and the game has balancing issues when using them against the attacking forces.

The campaign has 24 missions and each of them have different mazes for the humans to attack and they also have environmental damage like meteor showers that can damage the users towers as the enemy is attacking. During the course of each mission the user will occur technology points that can unlock items in the tech tree such as; Functions which is where the user can upgrade the repair function which branches out to other things that can boost the performance of the users tower. There is Towers where all of the towers can be upgraded by different level and each of them shows the details of each tower.

The whole match revolves around the humans attacking the aliens so that they can get to their Hive and if they destroy it the game is over and the user will have to rethink their strategy on how to better defend against the battle of waves. In order to upgrade the units the user will need to harvest resources with the harvester which can be upgraded to house more carusaurum which is the main resource in the game. There is also energy that can be used during each match to repair, explode, or shield towers.

Anomaly Defenders has really basic controls and they can be all configured in the settings most of the time the user will be using the mouse and the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the camera at a faster rate. The graphics for Anomaly Defenders will run very easily on most systems and the art direction looks beautiful very nice change in the color pallet with dark and bright levels. Some of the levels have some of the better art design that i have seen in the series the level of polish really shows in this version of the game with all the attention to detail to items in the level such as the objects on the ground and the towers themselves.

During the course of playing the campaign the game ran at a solid 60 frames a second with the settings maxed out and HD 1080P is nice when the game doesn’t have the hiccups like other games does on PC. I feel that Anomaly Defenders has moderate replay ability with their being 24 levels and so many different ways to defend against the humans. There’s no multiplayer in Anomaly Defenders like there was in previous versions of the game and I’m glad that it’s just single player due to the higher level of polish being in this version of the game.

Final Verdict:

Anomaly Defenders is an amazing tower defense game with a lot of polish and is a lot of fun to play. The game has some minor balancing issues when dealing with battling the human race but other than that this game is beautiful and is a blast to play if you’re a fan of the genre and or the series.

Experience War From A Different Perspective In ‘This War Of Mine’

“In war, not everyone is a soldier.”

Anomaly Developer 11 bit studios has announced its newest game today, This War of Mine. The game takes place in a modern day city, besieged caught in the middle of an open conflict. Instead of going the cliched route and focusing on battle-hardened soldiers out to save the day, the game will follow a group of citizens who are just trying to survive.

Due to the snipers outside, any attempt to leave their shelter is futile but also offers the chance to craft, upgrade your shelter, trade, feed and cure your survivors. Instead they will have have to use the cover of night, in order to head out and scavenge for food, weapons and other supplies. It won’t be easy as time is precious in this dark survival game.

Inspired by real-life events, This War of Mine has important messages for players; “This can happen in your city, in your country.”

“While designing a new game, we came across an article that described how one man survived in a besieged city. We learned about his hardships and the horror of that experience. We decided to work around this idea and make something real, something that moves people and makes them stop think for a second. It’s about time that games, just like any other art form, start talking about important things.” Lead designer lead Michal Drozdowski explains.

Players will have to make harrowing life-and-death decisions for the sake of the group. The studio claims there “are no good or bad decisions during war. There’s only survival.” So will you do everything in your power to protect everyone in your shelter, or sacrifice some in order to prevail? View the teaser trailer below.

We will have more details on This War of Mine as they come to light, including release date and platform availability. Stay tuned.

Anomaly 2 Review

Anomaly 2 comes from 11 Bit Studios out of Warsaw, Poland. They are famous for their tower defense series Anomaly. They have also come out with several other titles including Funky Smugglers and Sleepwalker’s Journey, both of which are iOS, Blackberry, and Android. In Anomaly 2 the year is 2034 A.C. and most of the earth is frozen over. The world population is unknown. Machines have returned to Earth and have the sole purpose to annihilate the human race. You play as a small squad. As you travel across the campaign you will meet Doctor Zander. With the help of his associates you will have Project Shockwave, which is the ultimate weapon to use against the machines.

Anomaly 2 is a tower defense game where you will have to adapt to many different types of towers. During the campaign you will play as a commander of a squad of six vehicles, these are normal military vehicles. They also have the ability to morph so you will have more than one type of specialty for each unit. The six types of units are the Assault hound which morphs into the Hellhound, the Sledgehammer which morphs into the Rocket Hammer, Grippen Guard which morphs into the Shield Guard, Heavy Support which morphs into Drone Support, the Supply Servant which morphs into the Shadow Servant, Mobile Lab, and the Drone Truck. Now this is a wide variety of units to select from.

Most of the game you will be playing with the Assault Hound and the Sledgehammer. You do have the ability to play the game with what units you prefer. Some work better against different types of towers than others. The machines have many different types of towers and they all vary in size and power. The list of towers are: the Scorcher which has punishing damage but it only can shoot straight, the Charger which breaks open in the Storm Reaper, the Enforcer which is relatively weak but has shields surrounding it during battle, the Predator, the Behemoth which is heavily armored and has shock pulses, the Hacker, and the Scrambler tower which hides towers near it and it can’t attack units.

Play Anomaly 2 can be played on 4 different difficulties, there is definitely a challenge even on the lower end of the games’ difficulty. Players have to adapt to the towers and think on their feet if they want to survive each section. In addition to the units there is special abilities that the player can use to help, these are: Repair, Decoy, EMP, and A I M. These all play a role in the campaign as well as in multiplayer.

As you find yourself destroying towers you will pick up Carusaurm which is a rare element used to buy units and also supply the abilities. The controls are taught to the player in-game through several tutorial missions in the beginning of the game. This is also a great place to master some skills that will be needed later on down the road. The game throws a learning curve into the mix on how you go about moving through the map. Everything is on a map where in the tactical view you can switch what direction your units are moving and which way they need to go next. This is crucial, especially if you want to avoid having your whole squad wiped out by a cluster or towers or just a single tower.

Anomaly 2 has a great campaign but this game also shines in the newly added multiplayer where you have tower defense and you also play on the offense as well. That’s right, you have more to do and it’s a ton of fun to play. You have all the same towers to select from as you would in the campaign and also the same units to use as well. There is also the addition of more abilities these are for the person playing the towers they are: Regen, Berserk, Taunt, and Kamikaze. To win in multiplayer the player must either win by being the first to get to a certain amount of points or by gaining a certain point advantage over the other player. This can be done by destroying enemy units, making harvesters or destroying them, and by destroying generators.

Final Verdict: Anomaly 2 has a high replay value and at the current price point of $14.99 at their website which gets you a Steam key for Anomaly 2 and a DRM-free copy of Anomaly Korea for Windows. I see myself coming back to this game for more multiplayer action and with the addition of the new free DLC you can’t go wrong with Anomaly 2. This game gets an 8.7 out of 10 from RealGamerNewz and receives an RGN Rating of Silver.
