New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game being Developed by PlatinumGames

It appears PlatinumGames is currently working on a new video game starring everyone’s favorite sewer dwelling heroes. The Australian Classification Board recently posted a rating for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, citing violence, mild themes and very mild language as reasons for its ‘M’ rating. Bear in mind an Australian ‘M’ rating is the equivalent to a ‘T’ rating in North America, so no need to become worried about it being too much for the young ones.

The game will apparently run on multiple platforms (No surprise) and feature online interactivity, hopefully 4-player co-op.

This marks the third licensed video game Platinum has developed for Activision, with The Legend of Korra and Transformers: Devastation being the previous two.

Stay tuned for more info.

Data: 93% of Homes in Australia Own a Dedicated Video Game Console (Since 2012)

According to a new report (the fifth one of its kind) Australia has been found to host 93% of its homes to a dedicated video game console. This statistic emerges in reaction to 2012 data which has been released showing a huge leap from 2005’s 78% ownership ratio. It’s not just younger generations embracing the digital medium either, for the first time in the country there has also been an increased active engagement seen in older demographics such as ages 30s and 40s.

There’s also an increase in discussion between literature and other forms of entertainment growing alongside the video games industry in Australia, citing a higher percentage of active and engaged minds in consuming information with a Professor at Bond University named Jeff Brand making the following statement, “this is analogous to a kind of literacy for the twentieth first century.” according to Dr. Jeff Brand.

NISA Announces Cross-Play PS3 / Vita Feature ‘Coming Soon’ for Dragon’s Crown AU / EU

Yesterday we reported that NISA had informed us of a mis-print on the back of the Australian / European region copies of Dragon’s Crown for PlayStation 3. The mis-print basically said that ‘cross-play’ between the PS3 and PS Vita was enabled on the game but NISA let us know that only cross-save functionality would be available to players.

Today, NISA has extended a new statement regarding the matter. Dragon’s Crown will be receiving cross-play PS3 / Vita support for gameplay between players as well, at some point in the near future. Here’s an exact quote from their updated press outreach:  “-we are happy to announce that in the upcoming months Cross-platform play will become available across Europe via a game patch.”

The Last of Us Multiplayer Gets Censored Outside USA, But So Does Every Game…

Many gamers may not realize this but all video games are censored in this way. Every video game that has ever been released since the implementation of the ESRB, PEGI, and similar ratings boards must go through strict approval processes, even in the United States where sex is the main victim of censorship which indicates US ratings boards as seeing violence in games as less problematic. While this is nothing new, some gamers who live abroad would have liked to know ahead of time about exactly what was censored so they could make an informed decision about whether or not to pay extra for an imported copy of TLOU. Here below reads the quote:

“The gore and violence ratings are subject to local regulatory boards in various countries, so the game must be slightly changed in order to accommodate those choices,” said a Naughty Dog Community Manager in regards to what players have been discovering is a censorship issue with The Last of Us on PlayStation 3.

Saints Row 4 Banned in Australia… For Now

Australia has once again banned another great game, Saints Row 4. The game has a lot of “inappropriate content” such as the dildo bat, nude mini games, and drug use. Australia has banned games in the past and continues to ban games that are “inappropriate”. It’s a shame that our fellow gamers over there won’t be able to enjoy this game, but there are ways around this ban (wink wink, Import). Reportedly Deep Silver and Volition are currently working on a censored version of the game for Australia to release at a later date. More information about that will be revealed over time. Saints Row 4 releases for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on August 2o.

PlayStation 4 Exact Release Date

MediaMarkt in Europe has revealed the release date of the PlayStation 4. The Sony PS4 will release November 13, 2013 according to this official promotion created by Sony themselves. If you are planning on grabbing one you can pre-order it now at basically every retailer worth their salt on earth. PlayStation 4 has no currently announced Japan release date. This date is to be taken as a Europe release date indicative of the North American release date. It likely does not represent the final decision which can still be changed by Sony and it does not necessarily represent the Australian release date. PlayStation 4 debuts for $399 USD.

Dead Island: Riptide Commercial Banned in Australia

Once again Dead Island is in a bit of trouble for swinging necks from trees. View this excerpt from VG247:

“The Australian Advertising Standards Board has recently banned the Dead Island: Riptide commercial for using ”images which are strongly suggestive of suicide”. The publishers of the game try to fight the ban saying the commercial is used to show the terror and hopelessness of the characters.

The publisher states that “is contextually relevant to the product being advertised, as it conveys the hopelessness of the games’ characters as they are faced with the overwhelming horror and violence of vast numbers of zombies hunting them, without actually depicting the violence of zombie vs character interaction in the game.”

You can decide if you think the commercial should be banned or not. I personally think that it shouldn’t be banned and that this whole dilemma is honesty, hilarious.

Editor’s Note: Australia has a very large anti-suicide social awareness movement and the main issue that the Australian Advertising Standards Board would likely have with the commercial is in fact not the zombies themselves but the logo depicting a person hanging from a tree allegedly implicating suicide.
