GameStop Pre-Order Trade-In Bonuses Might Die Off; Radical Changes Coming This Month

It appears GameStop is ushering in a new level of “power to the players” by revamping their trade-in offerings as well as renaming them in the terms they use while speaking to customers. From now on, GameStop employees will tell you “Cash isn’t the only way to pay for games, you know” and then proceed to ask you “When’s the last time we bought a game off of you or you sold a game to us?” in order to draw attention to the demographic that they claim does not know trade-ins exist (2/3 of GameStop customers according to internal documents leaked through mainstream media this evening).

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

GameStop has used some pretty fancy wording here to make it sound like trade-ins are going to net gamers a lot more cash than ever before, and to some extent that is technically true. Take a look at the bigger picture though… With a bullet point reading off “Our average trade ranges from $7.20 to $14.00 with a base of $9.00. We are elevating the average base value up 20% or to $11.00.” which essentially confuses the issue that you’re looking at a two dollar increase for the average game – nothing major.

THE BIG NEWS THOUGH IF NEED TRUE is that there will allegedly no longer be anything extra for trading in your games towards a pre-order of the latest upcoming games you want (according to Kotaku). Perhaps all of those Last of Us: Remastered trade-ins finally caught up with them? It did sound too good to be true after all, leaving one to ponder ‘how did GS even profit off of that?’ and now we have our answer. They didn’t do too good off of it because now that type of promotional campaign is a thing of the past. On August 18, 2014 you’ll always get the same price trading in your games, whether it’s towards Far Cry 4, Destiny, Halo 5, The Order, or just some Steam Wallet. Of course, you’ll still be punished with a % removed from your value if you want to walk away with actual cash – which sort of makes the whole “When’s the last time we bought games off of you?” pitch sound pretty lame when you think about it.

It’s easy for this so sound like a good deal, but I’m not the only one who’s less than impressed with a 20% increase on what is already pitiful prices. After all, 20% of nothing is still nothing (metaphorically speaking, since they are offering more than nothing).

Kotaku author Jason Schreier-

-who first broke the story tells us in plain Japanese that his last trade in got him just 25 cents and under the new system it would be worth 30 cents. A trade-in worth 10 bucks today will be worth “maybe” 12 bucks after the August 18, 2014 update. Two bucks ladies and gentleman. That is the price GameStop loyalists will be paid for being stripped of their precious pre-order / upgrade bonuses. Jason broke the story from insider sources (complete with visual evidence and training notes on how employees will be coached to comply with these new procedures).

It always gets weirder in the comments section though…

It seems that even those involved with GameStop are unsure if they are really going to get rid of promotions entirely or just ease off them for a while. The author of the original source of this leak even seems unsure with GameStop employees confessing they know about all of this, but not about the dumping of the promotional pre-order bonus. It is even claimed that that feature in fact is not being removed or at least not just yet – since a promotion is scheduled to be revealed on the same day as the new trade-in program. Confusing indeed. Be sure to check out the very last sentence in the GameStop internal document beneath this conversation between the author and a GameStop employee currently briefed on the new program.

Decide for yourself, is GameStop hanging on by a thread? Or is this a major plus one for gamers everywhere?

Have a look at some of the feedback for yourself as well as the original source post below:

Teleglitch: Die More Edition Review

Introduction:

Welcome to the hardest game ever. Yes you heard that right! Teleglitch: Die More Edition is one of the hardest top view games I have ever played. The game is surely exciting and keeps players addicted for hours. It represents itself as quite a brilliant rouge-like game. The “Die More Edition” is an upgraded version of the original game released last year. Test3 Projects have executed a well made game which has a really difficult “difficulty”, much like the 1999 Mode in Bioshock Infinite.

Let me begin with the story. Teleglitch: Die More Edition begins with a tutorial level which teaches you the basics, controls, techniques, and the gameplay elements of the game. The AI in the game has been vastly improved from the previous edition of the game. The monsters / zombie enemies in the game have an intelligent AI for a top-down, 18-bit pixel game. The enemies chase you until you die and they are smart as well as independent to the environment of the game. It can often be too difficult to kill / lose the enemies. In times where a player loses all his armory and enters a huge room filled with many enemies, his first instinct will be just to run! But that can be dangerous sometimes in cases of a blocked room and when you turn back, the enemies kill you.

Many, many new levels have been put into the game. Players now also have the option to choose any level they want from the menu and play it. Huge surroundings and settings have been added to the levels, making them feel more “vibrant” and “expanded”. A new option named the “Randomized Starting Gear” has been introduced in the game. Instead of spawning with a certain amount of ammo and a pistol, with the RSG feature, you can start of with 8 different weapons such as the Dynamite and the Shockblade. The RSG feature of the game is only available to users who bought the game before July 31st,2013 and is more like a Pre-Order Bonus DLC.

The game also features a crafting feature which enables you to craft weapons/items which help you to survive from scratch items. The story is focused on the player, a military scientist who wakes up to find that he is a survivor after something goes dangerously wrong in the “Testing Facility” where he is posted. The aim of the game is to find the back-story of the military corporation which you will learn of the different experiments that occurred in the facility.

Controls:

The controls of the game are buttery smooth at times and also “Rage Rough” when you get repeatedly killed by the enemy. The beginning tutorial teaches the player everything about the game and you will master the game in not more than 2 minutes. The run keys are ‘WASD’ and the cursor helps to rotate the player. The fire button is the left mouse button and the right mouse button is used for aiming.

Music:

The gameplay lacks in soundtracks and even in the MENUS. The game would have been better with some soundtrack but the game without soundtrack, still shows it’s versatility.

Yay Or Nay:

YAY! You have to play this game if you want to get addicted to it and like brutally hard, difficult games. The game will make you sit on the edge of your seat and also cause rage moments at times, but you should definitely give it a try.

Final Verdict:

Teleglitch: Die More Edition represents itself as one of the best top-down pixel shooters and is fun in all aspects. The game has great core elements of horror, creativity, and surprise. The unique number of gameplay features contribute to this great game. Adding a bit of music to the game would have made it more “Vibrant” but it still stands for itself. I really recommend Teleglitch: Die More Edition to all RealGamerNewz readers! This game receives an 8 out of 10 from RealGamerNewz earning itself the RGN Rating of Silver Game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Vengeance DLC Rumor

Either the developers over at Treyarch are taking some naming conventions from Hideo Kojima or their spell check is broken because today’s leak shows Black Ops II: Vengeance which is rumored to be a leak to the newest DLC for the game including 4 multiplayer maps: Cove, Rush, Uplink, and Detour (coincidentally all one word names) and new Cowboy Zombies experience Buried. There is also an advertisement at the bottom for a new Bonus Zombies Ray Gun Mark II. Overall this appears to be an elaborate fake but may give us a push for Treyarch to release the real thing soon.

Assassin’s Creed 4 Pre-Orders Begin, PS3 & PS4 Get Exclusive Content

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag recently had its trailer leaked and revealed by Ubisoft and today you can actually pre-order the title with exclusive content being confirmed for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 editions of the game. As already discussed by Ubisoft there will be a downloadable 60 minutes of extended gameplay for the PS3 / PS4 versions of the game. Ubisoft’s lean to Sony may be indicative of future strategies concerning the next generation gaming platforms.

You can pre-order the title here for a October 29 release date on Wii U, PS3, 360, and PC at the price of $59.99. The placeholder date and price given for the PlayStation 4 version is December 31, 2013 (suggesting the title won’t release for next gen systems until 2014) and currently there is a $99 placeholder price.

Even though Sony has stated that they will only be charging $59.99 for their PS4 games retailers are listing PS4 games at that price for the time being since publishers like Ubisoft have yet to confirm that they will also stick to the $59.99 price point. The real price and release date for the PlayStation 4 version of the game are yet-to-be-announced and these placeholders do not represent the actual details.
