Far Cry 3 Review

Far Cry 3 takes place on a South Pacific archipelago which is somewhere in the world, with players taking the role of Jason Brody a normal college graduate who goes on vacation with his two brothers, his girlfriend, and his friends. The vacation quickly turns bad as he and his friends are captured by slavers. After escaping the a drug-crazed slaver named Vaas who kills his older brother grant, Jason must quickly turn from frightened tourist into a one-man army, fighting to rescue his friends. Along the way Jason meets various locals of the islands all of which were memorable characters and every person you meet feels like a real person with actual motivations and reasons for what they do.

Not only are the characters and plot very deep and emotional but also the backdrop for this game and scenery are just beautiful. The island is lush with palm trees and inviting waters that are also full of life beneath them. Despite the vocational look of the island almost anything here is hostile towards you, from slavers, to sharks to, Komodo dragons; and killing them brings great rewards for a player who wants to go out of the way to explore to increase their equipment capacity. Everything you do in this game is a rush and there Is never a dull moment with all the life and activities going on around you.

The game-play has seen a major upgrade since Farcry 2. Everything in this installment looks nicer and operates and feels smoother and they fixed the lag delay that was present in Far Cry 2 when you would interact with an object. Like most games when you start you will have low quality weapons like the 1911 pistol that don’t really have a lot of power or accuracy to them and as you progress to heavier and more accurate weapons such as the longbow and the always fun but not so subtle RPG rocket launcher. Far Cry 3 has also taken a few pointers from Borderlands and has a skill-tree that every time you gain so much XP points you get to select a perk such as faster swimming, faster reload or a stealth based takedown skill, just to name a few.

Like a role-playing-game such as fallout 3 for instance parts of your map are hidden until you visit or unlock that location through discovery. Throughout the island there are radio towers that transmit data and the slavers have blocked the signals. Climbing these rickety unstable towers can reveal a small part of your map and once you find all 18 of them, your whole map becomes complete.

No longer will you have to painstakingly drive every single place like in Far Cry 2 and risk getting attacked over and over again because also like fallout you can fast-travel to a location you have discovered saving a load of time.

The single player alone is a sure fire reason to go out and buy this game; but, not only is there a single player campaign there is also a cooperative campaign that follows a wayward crew in their own quest to survive against the odds. Betrayed by their captain who sold their ship to pirates for a safe full of cash, these four crewmen spring to action in a quest for revenge and a desperate quest to regain the latest bits of their broken lives. It has 6 missions all about 40 minutes each and your rank carries over into multiplayer. This game is one of the best I have played in a long time from not just a gameplay standpoint, but a visual and story driven standpoint as well.

Tristans Twisted World: Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Review

When we first got a glimpse of this title I thought it was a Aprils Fools joke. Seems like I was the fool instead. The super 80’s supported video game based off the award winning Far Cry 3 which will soon receive a review from us. Even though this game has nothing to with Far Cry 3 it is a amazing title so who is ready for some Blood Dragon?

Soundtrack, Audio, Voice: The super old 80’s music similar to things such as TRON and feels like old dubstep. The Audio mix is near perfect as I could hear just about everything that was going on. Voice acting captured the 80’s point of view as Rex Power Colt had the Clint Eastwood type get up. Spider was the bad mouthing sidekick for the screen time that he had. Dr Darling was the hero’s lady but also played the role of being smart good. The classic evil Colonial Sloan villain was played well in the scenes he was in but could have used some more screen time, but that’s not how the 80’s did it.

Graphics, Physics, Glitches, Engine Performance: The graphics look just like Far Cry 3 but with the 80’s twist so it is really good looking title. The physics work like Far Cry 3 expect the fact you play as a Cyber Commando which makes you stronger and able to do some other things makes it even funner. Glitches were actually rare as a few times when I jumped on crates it happened but other than that well polished. The performance of the engine is outstanding with the fact it looks and feels like Far Cry 3 and the file size is only 1.32 so the fact the game looks as good and runs as well as it does is astounding.

Characters / Enemies: The characters all fit the ideal 80’s ideals. Sargent Rex Power Colt being the Clint Eastwood type as stated earlier. There is not to much depth to the characters but they got what they were going for when making the game. The enemy types are those that resemble the idiotic stormtropers that can’t shoot but the scientist can so they do not pose to much of a threat unless there higher ranked Omegas or Blood Dragons. Animals are a threat to but not as big as they played in Far Cry 3.

Gameplay: It is pretty much just like Far Cry 3. The differences being the enemies cause of things like Blood Dragons being around. The weapons are futuristic but very fun to play with and the attachments you can add change the way you can use them. Despite the fact is is pretty much Far Cry 3 it feels as if I’m playing an old school shooter game. It felt like DOOM, Halo, and many others from back in the day.

Story: The whole idea of the game is bring forth what people in the 80’s thought today would be like. You know with aliens, robots, all kinds of stuff but you know how everything turned out. But it’s the simple save the world, get the girl, and walk off into the sunset ideal. But how it is presented is very very good. It keeps you into it, it keeps you laughing at every little easter egg or funny quote, and most of all it feels right.

Replay Ability: High

Final Verdict: For bringing everything back that started the fire into one bundle is awesome. This game should cost a lot more than 15 bucks but I’m not complaining. Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon gets a 9.7 out of 10

Overall Score: 9.7/10   Platinum Game

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Given Release Date

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon from Ubisoft is a standalone game (meaning you don’t need Far Cry 3 to play it) releasing May 1, 2013 for the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace which celebrates the old school era of gaming proclaiming the 80’s as king and was announced alongside the launch of a website straight out of the 90’s which you can access here.

The game’s story takes place after the world is spun into nuclear warfare. Comically the year is set to 2007 and we are told that this all takes place in the ‘future’. Hence, the old school themes. The over-the-top personality of this game can be seen being showcased in the following trailer released by Ubisoft. If you originally took this entire announcement and game to be an April Fools joke, we don’t blame you, however it appears this game is indeed real.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon releases May 1, 2013.

Tristans Twisted World: FarCry 3 Bloodragon real or april fools?

“The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on.” That is the story for this game if it turns out to be real or it could be a DLC . The site has emerged so we will have to wait and see. It looks fake but it could be just a twist for Far Cry fans.
