Soon Xbox Live’s Games With Gold Will Feel ‘More True’ To What Gamers Want

Games with Gold, Microsoft’s Xbox Live program debuted last summer and offers two free games a month on Xbox 360 for members with a gold subscription. Since the promotion’s release, many have felt cheated with the selection of games that have been offered so far. Well Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer addressed the fan feedback during a Q&A session at SXSW over the weekend.

“I have been sitting down, monthly now, with [the Games Gone Gold team]… and playing a more active role in picking franchises that show up in Games with Gold, and I think you’ll see at least something that feels, at least, more true to what I think Games with Gold should look like with the constraints that are there,” Phil said.

The GwG program is often compared to Sony’s PlayStation Plus promotion, which offers more games and many that are more recent. This is what he had to say on the matter.

“One of our… differences between the other system we get compared to, is the fact that with Games with Gold, you get to keep that game, regardless of whether you continue to subscribe,” Spencer said. “I think there’s some steps and some evolution of what Games with Gold or any of the other systems will go through to their full potential”

It was reported late last year that Games with Gold would be making its way on Xbox One sometime this year. When asked about it, Phil tweeted that details would be revealed soon.

Xbox 360’s October 2013 Games With Gold Announced

Microsoft has announced the next two games that will be available for free as part of their Games with Gold program next. First up is the puzzle RPG Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, which will be free to download from tomorrow October 1st to October 15th. M&M was originally a DS title that was released in 2009. In 2011 it was re-released on Xbox 360, PC and PS3, with improved graphics, local and online multiplayer, new content and more. Check out the trailer below.

From October 16th to October 31st, Halo 3, the mega popular first person (the best in the franchise in my opinion) will be available to download for those of you who never got around to playing it back then. Here’s some multiplayer gameplay footage in High Definition.

There you have it the next two games in Microsoft’s Games with Gold program. Remember you must be an Xbox Live Gold member in order to download these games, once you have they are yours to keep, should you choose to not renew.

So what do you guys think, excited for these two free games? I personally can’t wait to give M&M a go as I never got around to buying the game. Halo 3? I played enough of it to not really care now, plus I’m just about tired of the franchise.
