Despite the somewhat mixed response to past releases from Rockstar Games on Windows PC from the computer gaming community, the petition for Grand Theft Auto V (our RGN Review here) to hit the platform has continued to garner a massive interest worldwide. At the moment of this posting over 575,000 people have signed the petition for GTA V to come to the PC. One of the most likely reasons Rockstar Games has remained silent about this and has yet to reveal plans for a PC release is the fact that piracy is extremely high on the platform. Although every platform suffers from it in today’s gaming environment, we see ridiculously huge ratios on Windows PC.
It’s likely that if a PC version of the game does exist, it will not be shown or mentioned anytime soon in order for Take-Two Interactive to prevent Rockstar Games from shooting themselves in the foot in terms of jeopardizing Holiday 2013 sales of Grand Theft Auto V by encouraging pirates and bootleggers who would just prefer to sit it out and wait for a free copy to hit the illegal content sharing websites out there.
Some of the reasons petition signers have listed in terms of why they would like to see GTA V hit the PC include the ability to mod the game (which may also interfere with plans for DLC, as some of the modding community takes up the task of attempting to recreate officially paid DLC as free mods in worst case scenarios), and enhanced graphics (which may not exist at this point in time since the game was created as a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 exclusive with a large focus on gameplay).
If given enough time to satisfy investors and upgrade systems, Rockstar Games will probably address these issues and release a PC version that computer gamers can be proud of; complete with great modding ability and enhanced graphics. However, if it isn’t going to be perfect players might be better off just biting the bullet and buying it for PS3 / 360 consoles this Holiday 2013 season to avoid the agony of not playing the world’s fastest selling video game in history.
