[Update #4] Hacker Group’s DDoS Attacks Cripple PlayStation Network

Update #4: Sony has released the following update on their blog.

“Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.

Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.
We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Update #3: @FamedGod claims to have been the one responsible for the DDoS attack.

Update #2: Some users can log in but others still can’t at the moment.

Update: Smedley has tweeted that services will slowly but surely be restored.

Though he is referring to SOE and is not sure about PSN.

Stay tuned.

Original Story as follow:

Sony’s PlayStation Network was scheduled for maintenance on Monday but seems to have gotten a one day head start thanks to a barrage of DDos (Distributed denial of service) attacks on their servers.

The Hacker group known as @LizardSquad has claimed responsibility, bragging about it via their twitter account. They’ve also taken credit for the attacks on  Path of Exile, Battle.net and League of Legends servers. John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment has confirmed the attacks via twitter.

There is no time window for when the service will be back online but Smedley has assured that Sony is working to bring it back online and it is almost under control.

The group also claims to have gotten into Sony’s data centers

Probably best to change your passwords once service goes back up just to be safe. Stay tuned to RGN as we’ll keep you updated on the situation.

[Update #2] Hacker Threats Divert Plane Flight With Sony Boss On Board

Update #2: Smedley has tweeted that everything is okay but won’t go into anymore details:

Update: In response to Game Informer’s inquires about the situation, a Sony representative had stated:

“The FBI is currently handling the situation at this time. We have no further comment”

Good, we’ll keep you posted.

Original Story as follows:

The group of hackers known as @LizardSquad — who claims to be behind the DDoS attacks on PSN and others, seems to have targeted  Sony Online President John Smedley as well. The group supposedly called in a bomb threat to flight American Airlines #362, causing it to divert. Smedley was on said flight.

According to Smedley’s tweet earlier this morning the flight was originally scheduled from Dallas to San Diego but it has been diverted to Phoenix for “security reasons.”

You can view the flight path here.

He isn’t the only one to have tweeted about the situation, and LizardSquad took it upon themselves to retweet some of them.

This whole situation is getting out of hand honestly.

Titanfall Cheaters/Hackers Are Now Being Banned

Respawn announced yesterday that they were finally starting to ban players of the game who cheat/hack. Their Twitter update came in late last night (3/17/2014) and stated that there will be more to follow.

Their Twitter feed says “Curious about anti-cheat/hackers?” and goes on to state “We have started kicking players and more will follow.” It looks like Titanfall hackers aren’t going to be too happy, but then again who’s happy with them? In the Twitter post Respawn can be seen answering a couple of questions. It seems like Respawn is perfectly fine with the ban hammer stating: “They will not be able to play further” which was directed at the question asking what their punishment would be.

Respawn’s Titanfall is currently available for Xbox One and PC with the Xbox 360 version slated to debut 3/25/2014.

Hacker News: Anonymous + LulzSec Vs FBI: Global Arrests, Snitch Named

Today LulzSec hacks responsible for breach of security and/or DDOS attacks on Nintendo, Bethesda, Sony and other large corporations/organizations including 20th Century Fox were addressed in open court as the LulzSec Ringleader Hector Xavier Monsegur (known as Sabu) was revealed to have been working with law enforcement agencies such as the FBI in order to cut a deal for less jail time on about 10 different counts Sabu has pleaded guilty to according to breaking reports from major media outlets.

The hacker group has been connected to everything from the PlayStation Network hacks to Central Intelligence Agency breaches of Homeland Security and the hacking of Nintendo, Bethesda, EVE Online, and many others that will possibly go unnamed for time immemorial.

While in New York City Hector “Sabu” Monsegur was working against the people he had stood up for with such risque hashtags as “#F***FBIFridays” trending worldwide on Twitter (until being “moderated” A.K.A. censored), a branch of UK LulzSec members were also rounded up and pled guilty to all of their charges. The group will include names Ryan “Kayla” Ackroyd, Mustafa “Tflow” Al-Bassam, Jake “Topiary” Davis, and Ryan Cleary who will all be sentenced on May 14, 2013.

For the tech world this news comes at the cost of heroes  villains, geniuses, and perhaps hackers who will find themselves more involved with their destiny than ever before if given the chance to use their skills again. Tristans Twisted World: Headless Halo 4 Cheaters

Reports of the return of headless cheaters in Halo 4 have been popping up. Months ago there was an issue but they were banned quickly by 343. But it seems they have either returned, or someone else is doing the same thing. There have been full teams of headless players you easily win as they can not be shot in the head, and can’t die at all anyway usually. If these pictures aren’t old, which I doubt they are due to many reports, the 343 needs to find these people and do a clean up to keep the Halo 4 servers safe.
