DayZ Standalone Has Sold 800,000 Copies

Creator Dean Hall has revealed that early access alpha dayZ Standalone has sold over 800,000 copies, in less than one month.

Dean Hall wrote on Reddit:

“We (Bohemia and I) had very ambitious plans for 2014 already, however this amount of sales was completely unexpected. Honestly, 250k within a quarter was what I would have considered a success. So to move nearly 800,000 in under a month is crazy. We’ll be finalizing our roadmap in mid January, but it is safe to say that this kind of result will be having a very positive effect on that roadmap.”

Saints Row 4 Banned in Australia… For Now

Australia has once again banned another great game, Saints Row 4. The game has a lot of “inappropriate content” such as the dildo bat, nude mini games, and drug use. Australia has banned games in the past and continues to ban games that are “inappropriate”. It’s a shame that our fellow gamers over there won’t be able to enjoy this game, but there are ways around this ban (wink wink, Import). Reportedly Deep Silver and Volition are currently working on a censored version of the game for Australia to release at a later date. More information about that will be revealed over time. Saints Row 4 releases for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on August 2o.

Dead Island: Riptide Commercial Banned in Australia

Once again Dead Island is in a bit of trouble for swinging necks from trees. View this excerpt from VG247:

“The Australian Advertising Standards Board has recently banned the Dead Island: Riptide commercial for using ”images which are strongly suggestive of suicide”. The publishers of the game try to fight the ban saying the commercial is used to show the terror and hopelessness of the characters.

The publisher states that “is contextually relevant to the product being advertised, as it conveys the hopelessness of the games’ characters as they are faced with the overwhelming horror and violence of vast numbers of zombies hunting them, without actually depicting the violence of zombie vs character interaction in the game.”

You can decide if you think the commercial should be banned or not. I personally think that it shouldn’t be banned and that this whole dilemma is honesty, hilarious.

Editor’s Note: Australia has a very large anti-suicide social awareness movement and the main issue that the Australian Advertising Standards Board would likely have with the commercial is in fact not the zombies themselves but the logo depicting a person hanging from a tree allegedly implicating suicide.

XO Live TV ONLY available in US during launch

Xbox ONE Live TV, unveiled at Microsoft’s recent Xbox One reveal event, will enable you to ‘navigate and watch live TV from your cable or satellite set-top box through your Xbox One.’ This service is a big part of Microsoft’s central message that the Xbox One will be an all-in-one games and entertainment device, so obviously the publisher is stressing its commitment to ‘bringing live TV through various solutions to all the markets where Xbox One will be available’. But, this feature will only be available in the US at launch.

PS4 News: PlayStation 4 Supports Free Cross-Game Party Chat

PlayStation Vita was the first Sony console to be able to host cross-game chat conversations. For years Xbox 360 gamers have cherished the feature as one that gives its system a unique edge on PlayStation 3’s PSN network. It was often included in lists of reasons why Xbox gamers felt comfortable paying Xbox Live Gold’s fee.

Although there will be PlayStation Plus optional subscription service (and possibly a multi-tiered one), many features of PlayStation Network on the PlayStation 4 will not require any fee at all. Among these features is the ability to play online multiplayer games you own on the system as well as Cross-Game chat.

These features being free on PlayStation 4 will prompt Microsoft to either change their formula for online pricing or face skepticism from some gamers arguing their actual value. Of course this issue is just one of the many factors being calculated by gamers on the fence about which console manufacturer to invest with in the next generation of gaming.
