Not A Joke: Greg Miller Quits IGN

Congratulations to Greg Miller starting his own brand, I’ve always been a huge fan of his work and thanks to my good friend Hip Hop Gamer INC. I got a chance to meet him while working an industry trade event. Shout out to IGN.com for doing a great job finding Greg and his team of hilarious and brutally honest dudes, that will likely start the next big brand in Games Journalism. I’m sure we will see more great journalists rise from IGN as well. Shout outs to Gabe Carey for bringing this matter to my attention and his own publication Current Digital Magazine putting out great stories like this Interview with the CEO of Brain+ and how Neuroscience and Game Development Converge.

BUT, Don’t Take My Word For It….

Take a look below and see for yourselves, as fellow gamers of the world we proudly present….

Is Crytek Going Broke?

I take a moment to speak about the financials of a company responsible for the series that made us all say “Can you run it?” with bleeding-edge technological advancements that they later tried to bring to the entire industry. Unfortunately, most of the AA and AAA video game development industry has no place for that and would rather focus on ‘easier to develop for’ middleware engines like Unreal 3 and Unreal 4, leading to an interesting and unfortunate turn of events which led us to this question today.

Luke’s Impressions of the Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Japanese Trailer

So what did you guys think about the new Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes trailer?? Well yes, it’s the same one shown last year at the VGA Awards – but this time in Japanese!!! As I heard Keefer Sutherland’s voice mutter them famous words “Kept you waiting, Huh”, I was in awe.

For me he nailed it but many would disagree and that’s fine because not all of the voice acting in this trailer is perfect. Skullface, the mysterious new Protagonist with a Burnt face and rocking a badazz duster-coat, really got me excited because if there’s one thing Kojima knows how to do it’s to make the best villains in the business. So I was awaiting to see what voice he would hold, and as it turns out it sounds nothing like his character and to be honest. I was quite disappointed in this. The other voice is a familiar one – Kaz, who still has the same voice actor Robin Atkin Downes which I was more than happy with.

All in all the voice acting in my opinion was great except for Skullface but who knows, I may be wrong because not much of the Trailer shows him talking.

Please – if you haven’t gone and checked out the trailer I advise you to check it out HERE, yes it’s the same trailer but it gives us a taste of what is to come and at first it may sound weird hearing Keefer corrupt our beloved snake’s voice but I couldn’t have picked a better voice for snake. You can tell he cares about the character which is what the Metal Gear series needs. There is also a new direct feed demo of the game HERE without the Japanese commentary nor the bad feed and also the sounds of the game are much louder in this one. For more information about the upcoming title check out our dedicated Metal Gear Solid V Section Here.

Criterion “Would Rather Work On A Small Team All Focused On Gameplay”; 15 Employees Left

In an interesting turn of events, Criterion Games has allowed around 65 crew members to be absorbed by Ghost Games UK and they are not upset about this as with the remaining 15 employees the famous racing developer will now focus on a New IP that they are expected to reveal some time in the near future. Criterion Games changed the racing genre permanently when they introduced Burnout Paradise and they’ve been involved in many racing games that have failed to re-ignite that spark ever since, but why?

Could it be that there were too many chiefs and not enough Indians? Time will now tell as Criterion Games has the freedom to focus on what they want with a considerably smaller amount of bureaucracy. We here at RealGamerNewz are quite excited to see such a well known developer embrace the corporate culture of less is more, and to publicly pronounce their focus on gameplay. The official quote is below.

“We would rather work a small team all focused on gameplay rather than a huge team split by discipline.” – Alex Ward (Creative Director of Criterion Games)
