E3 2015: The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale Games Mini-Series Revealed

Telltale Games announced a three-part mini-series starring Michonne, as the next installment for The Walking Dead series. The three episodes will follow Michonne’s absence between issues #126 and #139 of the popular comic book series. Players will learn why she she left her group and she inevitably rejoined them.

“In many ways, Michonne herself is a reflection of the world of The Walking Dead. She is brutal and cold on the outside, but deep beneath what is broken, she remains hopeful, trying to claw her way out of the darkness that surrounds her,” said Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead. “In our effort to bring the world of the comic and the world of the Telltale series closer together, there is no greater character than Michonne to help bridge that gap.”

Michonne’s complexity and range make her an ideal lead for the compelling interactive drama fans have come to expect from Telltale,” said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. “With this mini-series, players will experience Michonne’s challenges first-hand, and the choices they make will shape her journey. We’re incredibly honored by Robert for the opportunity to share this untold story in The Walking Dead universe.”

The Walking Dead: Michonne will release later this year on PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and compatible iOS and Android-based devices. Completing the first episode of The Walking Dead: Season Two is required in order to play the mini-series. Stay tuned for more info.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III Enlists NFL’s Marshawn Lynch

Seattle Seahawk’s running back, Marshawn Lynch will make his video game debut later this year in Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III. ESPN dropped the announcement today, when they revealed the official cover of their next magazine issue.

Due to hit newsstands this Friday, ESPN’s very first eSports issue provides an exclusive look at the creation of his character via motion capture, body scanning and more. “Beast Mode”, as he is referred to in the NFL, will be playing a villain in the game’s campaign and looks to bring the same intensity he delivers on the gridiron, with his role.

Lynch running and dual wielding in a mo-cap suit.

Lynch is a huge fan of the COD franchise and has been since his days in College. He also feels that it is parallel with his on-field philosophy.

“You’re shooting up everything but always fighting for a bigger picture. The whole game is Beast Mode.”

Marshawn’s inclusion in “Black Ops III” marks the first time an athlete will appear in a Call of Duty title. You can read more about Lynch’s experience in Activision’s motion capture studio here.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III will release on November 6, 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The Evil Within: The Executioner DLC Review

In the final DLC of The Evil Within titled, The Executioner, surviving STEM takes a turn for the better. Enemies that once inspired fear received an unimpressed grunt before meeting their doom at the end of a massive spiked hammer. Areas that conjured dread at the notion of exploring were now comfortable and cozy. Playing as The Keeper made it all feel like home.

The Executioner, takes place after the main game when a father willingly enters STEM under the observation of Mobius, with the hopes of finding and freeing his daughter previously trapped there by Ruvik. In doing so, he must dispatch the other occupants to end their influence over the girl before the damage done to her mind is irreparable.

Playing as the over powered Keeper made for swift work when dealing with regular haunted. The bosses however, needed a bit more than the swing of the mighty hammer. Referred to as “subjects”, these foes were the level bosses from the main game and as such required a bit more creativity to beat. Such as using environmental traps.

Upon defeating each subject, the weapons specific to them becomes available for purchase with the Keeper Coins collected from downed haunted. The store also features an upgrade system where you can strengthen your weapons, lessen damage dealt by enemies, quicken your walking pace etc. To gain extra Keeper Coins there is the option of completing several arenas, where the Keeper is tasked with multiple foes at once. After  completion, two additional arenas are unlocked. One of them featuring a face off with Sebastian Castellanos, as well as New Game +.

Final Verdict:

Overall, the experience of The Executioner was pleasant. It wasn’t very challenging, but playing as one of the stronger characters in the game makes that somewhat inevitable. It was nice however, to give the Keeper a touch of humanity and redemption with his goal being so selfless. The first person view had smooth controls and wasn’t a hindrance at all, giving instead new angles on the gore and havoc wrought by a distraught father in search of his child.

The Evil Within’s Final DLC to Release in Two Weeks

While the previous DLCs for The Evil Within placed players in the heels of Juli Kidman, the third and final DLC will see them experience the game from two new perspectives; as the dangerous Keeper and in first-person.

Yes, you’ve read that correctly. Bethesda has released a 15 second teaser showcasing first-person gameplay, as the Keeper smashed and chainsaws his way through the opposition. The official description is below:

“In the final DLC for The Evil Within’s DLC, open the safe door and see the action through the eyes (???) of the menacing Keeper. Experience his power and brutality in first person as you square off against  most iconic adversaries of The Evil Within.”

The Evil Within: The Executioner will release on May 26, 2015 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. You will be able to purchase it separately for $9.99, or as part of the game’s season pass — along with The Assignment and The Consequence, for $19.99.
