Sometimes it’s hard growing up, things change, people treat you different and time never stops. We all have things that we wish would have never changed (cough cough, Banjo Kazooie, Crash Bandicoot) but I am ecstatic to say that this is not the case with Rayman Origin. The original Rayman was a 2D platformer like origins but after that they were all 3D platformers with lovable and goofy voice-acting. The Lovability factor in this game isn’t with the witty personality from the characters themselves but from the epic and beautiful art design that Ubisoft Art has given Rayman and his surroundings.
Soundtrack, Audio, Voice: Let me just say that this game has a wonderful soundtrack. It has so much personality to it and even while playing it i was thinking, this is incredibly good (And that’s an understatement). Every Area you go to has a different soundtrack to it and fits just so perfect with the atmosphere and feel of the game. It is easily one of the best soundtracks i have ever heard in a game and every song deserves a listen.
Graphics, Physics, Glitches, Engine Performance: As previously said This game looks beautiful. I applaud UbiArt for making this game as wonderful as it looks and is pure joy to the eyes. On another note the games flow and moves feel smooth and perfect even on consoles, so you won’t have to have a high end PC to get that 60+ frames per second feel. Amazingly i did not run into a single glitch or problem throughout the entire game so no updates in Rayman Origin’s future.
Characters / Enemies: The Enemies in Rayman Origins are very strange and unique looking, but they are not the most intelligent AI i have seen. Not that that’s a problem because they serve more as a tiny obstacle in your journey through this colorful land. When enemies are hit they comically bloat up like a balloon and so much as a simple jump could pop them. There is also as much danger to the environment as their is to the Enemies for every corner might have a bottomless pit or spiny urchins.
Gameplay: It’s a 2D side scroller like the original Rayman, but now its faster moving and even at some points in the game has you chasing chest across dangerous lands calling for you to hold the sprint button down the entire time. This is also an immensely difficult game as some part such as the one previously mentioned can take multiple tries to learn the landscape and get down those tricky jumps. If you don’t like playing alone and you have 4 controllers then you are in luck because origins is 4 player; and it’s hectic and fun. You are able to hit your own team members so that means grieving on your friends has infinite possibilities!
Story: Rayman, his best friend Globox, and some Teensy friends are lolling about at the Snoring Tree, when their snoring disturbs an old granny from the Land of the Livid Dead, who retaliates by sending an army of horrendous creatures and across the world, capturing the Electoons, imprisoning Betilla the Nymph and her sisters, and plunging the Glade into chaos. Rayman and friends are captured, but then escape kick starting your adventure.
Final Verdict: Rayman Origins is one of the best platformers i have seen in a long time and it definitely deserves your time. The beautiful scenery, terrific soundtrack, and hectic co-op make this is must buy for fans of Rayman, co-op games, or if you just want a new experience since nowadays games like this are hard to come by. This game gets well deserved 10/10, a platforming masterpiece.
