The One Claiming Responsibility for PSN DDoS Attack Threatens to Go After Xbox Live

@FamedGod who claims to be the one actually responsible for the DDoS attack that has brought down Sony’s PlayStation Network, has vowed to go after Microsoft’s Xbox Live servers next.

Whether this person is really the one who cripple PSN hours ago or just trolling is unknown, but he seems to determined to convince everyone that he is and a threat to Microsoft’s servers. That remains to be seen.

This, this is why we can’t have nice things.

PS3 SERVERS SHUT DOWN: Gran Turismo 5, Resistance Series, SOCOM Series, And MAG

Sony is prematurely pulling the plug on Gran Turismo 5 as well as the Resistance series while arguably putting the dead dog to rest with both the SOCOM and MAG series. This is perhaps worst for MAG players as the title has no single player experience to speak of. Gran Turismo 5 and Resistance 3 are particularly surprising to see shut down this early in the game though and beg the question of gamers – when will Sony shut off Gran Turismo 6 if this is what they consider a decent life span for GT5’s online mode?

Time will tell, but luckily online isn’t as important for GT6 as it is for a first person shooter like Resistance. Players who never got to experience the arguably unique gameplay of Resistance 2’s online mode are completely out of luck if they don’t jump on it soon, and this action sets a precedent for even older titles like Warhawk which Dylan Jobe recently told us was safe – we’re not so sure after this (hopefully they green-light his vision for a Warhawk PS4 title. It would appear Sony doesn’t care about meeting the same standards as the PlayStation 2 era in terms of keeping online servers up for popular games.

January 28, 2014 is the Official Shut Down Date for these games. Sony has yet to comment how many other games are being shut off in 2014 and which / when.

Destiny Controls And Gameplay Details Revealed By Bungie And Activision

Bungie and Activision have released new details on the controls and gameplay that will be found in the upcoming Destiny game which releases for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Sony PS4, and Microsoft XO during the second quarter of 2014.

Gameplay Details

Destiny’s Co-Op, Competitive, and Single Player are all essentially one game. There are side missions that can be done solo but the rest of the game is meant to be played with other people, sometimes a lot of them. Some areas are meant for massive groups of people while others are just for concentrated co-op sessions in smaller groups and the enemies will be scaled accordingly so that it’s always a challenge but never too difficult.

The co-operative aspects of the game will be fed with players by something that sounds similar to the recent Defiance game release which sees many people on the same server who are thrown together automatically by drop in / drop out systems controlled by the games rather than the players.

Bungie describes this as some sort of new matchmaking concept though and more needs to be revealed before we see exactly how Destiny will re-invent this mechanic. Destiny will also feature competitive (Player Vs Player AKA PVP) shooting and Dynamic (changing) maps.

Controls

Key: X360+ONE / PS3+4 Button = Command

  • A / X = Tap Once To Jump, Tap Twice For “Focus” Ability Movement
  • Y / Δ = Switch Weapons (Primary, Secondary, Heavy)
  • LT / L1 = Aim Down Sights
  • RT / R1 = Shoot
  • LB / L2 = Throw Grenade
  • RB / R2 = Melee
  • LS / L3 = Sprint
  • Hold LB+RB / Hold L2+R2 = Special Ability (Super Move Slot)

Details On Races, Character Progression, and the Locations that Destiny will feature are also revealed today and you can find those by clicking on the source materials below.

Resolving the launch issues is our #1 priority, In fact, we are so serious that we have the entire team working to stabilize the game and we will not move on to other projects until we are sure that Battlefield 4 meets – and exceeds – your expectations. It is the right thing to do.”

Xbox Live Gold Free Weekend Starts This Friday

Xbox Live Gold, the paid service for Xbox 360 from Microsoft, will be free this entire weekend starting Friday October 4, 2013. Players will be able to get on GTA Online once Rockstar Games puts up some more servers and play the multiplayer portion of GTA V together until they are addicted and likely subscribe to Gold shortly after. This is yet another one of those marketing plans of genius at work here for Microsoft’s paid subscription service.

GTA Online features innovative gameplay mechanics such as buying your own apartment, playing with friends in an open world / sandbox separate from the single player campaign, allowing players to create their own missions, and more in the living breathing world of GTA V. If you haven’t had the chance yet, check out our Full RGN Review of GTA V. For more videos and information about the game, check out our dedicated GTA V Section.

MAG Servers Shutting Down Jan 2014: Just 4 Years After the Game Released

Multiplayer Only they said, dedicated servers they said, 256 players they said, it’ll be awesome they said. They say a lot of things these days don’t they? Even though single player capable games like Demon Souls will continue having servers thanks to fan demand it appears multiplayer-only title MAG will have its servers shut off January 2014. This is only 4 years after the game’s original release date exclusively for Sony PlayStation 3 on January 2010.

The 256 player first-person shooter will never be played again once this happens, since the game is a squad-based tactical shooter set for multiplayer only gameplay. Anybody out there still buying the physical copies of the game will certainly feel foolish and robbed, take this as your only warning since it appears developers Zipper Interactive and publisher Sony Computer Entertainment America have no interest in shouting it from the rooftops.

No DRM, and no servers either… which for MAG means no functionality unfortunately. If this can happen to one of Sony’s largest first party investments, what is the fate of barely populated Killzone, Warhawk, and Resistance servers as time goes on? In other news, Socom: Confrontation servers will also be shut down. At least that game has an offline mode, and it’s pretty terrible anyways with nothing more than a cult following. Did we just say that out loud? Oops.

ShootMania Storm Review

When I was told I was going to get to review ShootMania Storm I was super excited because I love Nadeo and their games are awesome. Their catalog consists of high caliber titles such as TrackMania Nations and TrackMania Canyon. Both of these games have always been played at a lot of Lan Parties they are time trial based games and require a lot of perfection and technique. I played in the Open Beta for ShootMania Storm and at first I was very impressed with the fresh new gameplay. The community was very behind this game and that was good because I could hop on to the servers and always find games.

This is strictly an online multiplayer game, so there is no single player to the game. ShootMania Storm is aimed at the competitive eSports scene. The gameplay is supposed to be very fast paced it takes elements from other first person shooters such as gliding when you go down slopes. However, in the final product the movement feels like a slow downed version of of Quake Live or Unreal Tournament. As for the weapons, well you have one that is on your arm. It has limited shots and they charge up after you shoot so timing is critical, they also travel straight so shooting ahead of your competition is not a wise choice.

The controls are your basic WSAD or your arrow keys for moving and shooting is with your left mouse click and your right click is for action and hold it down for more stamina while moving. Its easy to pickup, but is not a game I would recommend buying by yourself though. It’s a lot more fun to play with a group of people you know. The graphics in the game are nothing to write home about, they are basic color pallet. Though the fog animation and effects in this game are really some of the better effects I have seen in games.

One of my biggest complaints with ShootMania Storm is the lack of servers, and there aren’t that many of them. If you were to log onto the servers on a weekday you would be lucky to find about 6 servers in the whole world. On a weekend there are a handful more, but not as many as there should be. It feels like the community has really died down in this multi-player only game and it has the potential to be a great game but at the end of the day it really has some problems with it.

If there is almost no one playing on the servers, it really doesn’t make sense why you’d want to buy the game solo. The only redeeming factor would be to buy it with a group of people dedicated to giving the title a shot. The lack of customization or lack of weapons is also a very sore point for me. This game has moderate re-playability but with the lack of servers on the game, I find this will be one game I won’t be going back to very often to play.

ShootMania Storm is not the best addition to the FPS genre but will still play like other games in the series, I was expecting a lot more from this studio but in the end it really relies heavily on the community to play it. ShootMania gets 4.5 out of 10 from RealGamerNewz.

EA Insult to Gaming Community’s Intelligence, Maxis Silent Accomplice Speaks Out

If you’ve been following the ongoing story of EA and Maxis releasing the latest SimCity title to PC and the hell that’s proverbially broken loose there-since, you should know that it’s not being confirmed by workers inside Maxis that EA never needed the game to be always-online in the first place. The excuses being used for why the “Always-Online DRM” was implemented have already been skeptically analyzed by Kotaku and others, but now this employee is stepping up from behind the wall to confirm what we all already know.

“The servers are not handling any of the computation done to simulate the city you are playing. They are still acting as servers, doing some amount of computation to route messages of various types between both players and cities. As well, they’re doing cloud storage of save games, interfacing with Origin, and all of that. But for the game itself? No, they’re not doing anything. I have no idea why they’re claiming otherwise.”  Says Maxis Employee [RPS]

Now that we are pretty much certain without reasonable doubt that EA has once again lied to the gaming community in their seemingly never-ending false advertising campaign covered by roses and chocolates, double-talk and politically correct snobbery to look down on all who oppose their rule, it’s time for Maxis to come clean publicly.

We need you to take one more look at this poll Maxis, march into EA’s offices (or boot up your laptops) and just release the truth that you really don’t need the game to be online and EA is just forcing you to do this. If this game is not made available for offline play in the single player format in the next few days you will be forever tarnishing your name and doing the opposite of “winning fans trust back” but instead forever damning yourself to our instant skepticism upon the mention of your once sacred name.

Sincerely,

Gamers and fans the world over.

Tristan Twisted World: SimCity Server madness “woes are almost behind us”

The general manager of Maxis, the studio behind city-building simulation SimCity, says the recent connection woes destroying recently-launched game are “almost behind us.” Maxis GM Lucy Bradshaw says the studio has deployed more servers and cut back on game crashes by 92%. Launched last Tuesday, SimCity has become almost unplayable, with owners failing to connect online and build their cities. If players are fortunate enough to connect, they are greeted with several technical bugs. It has been called the worst launch since Diablo 3. The issue is the always online experience that wont even let people play the game till these fixes have come in. The studio has announced they would give a free game out. Bradshaw said he hopes people do not get scared off by the server ratings as its being taken care cause its a very good game he says.
