Atlus Has Permission From SEGA To Use Their IP Such As Phantasy Star

SEGA has announced that they will allow recently acquired developer Atlus to use classic SEGA intellectual properties (including games like Phantasy Star or Shenmnue. The following quote comes from the corp responsible for the late, great Dreamcast console many gamers look back upon fondly:

“While we have no intention of forcing this, we’d definitely love to have them utilize any of Sega’s dormant IPs.”

RealGamerNewz.com will soon be launching a few articles covering the entire Shenmue situation, but for now we’d like to say that Phantasy Star seems like the most likely candidate for Atlus if they did decide to grab up an Old IP to work on. This might never occur if Atlus decides not to walk where angels don’t dare tread, but the possibilities are endless and speculation will run rampant from here on  out.

The 15th Anniversary of the Dreamcast… A Look Back In Time

I would like to take this time to pay tribute to the ‘console-before-its-time’, the SEGA Dreamcast. It has been 15 years since it released in Japan and 14 in the USA and it has definitely left its legacy in our hearts as gamers. From the controller to the graphics everything about this system was amazing and now with SEGA doing a re-release for the Dreamcast some may get to bring back great childhoods or teenage years.

Fans of the Dreamcast and me of course remember having so much fun in the living room or at a friends house playing games like Power Stone, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Virtual On, Shenmue, and of course Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Other great things this system did was be the first console to have online play which back in the day was ground-breaking thanks much to Phantasy Star Online and a community that still plays it even to this day.

These days SEGA just releases games but will always be remembered for its Consoles; the Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and Sega Dreamcast. Thank you SEGA for making childhoods and many teenage years great, we hope some day you can relive you glory days and put out consoles again.

Sega Dreamcast Re-Releases Shenmue in HD for XBL and PSN

In recent news Sega announced that they would be re-releasing the cult classic Shenmue I and II updated with full HD graphics. They are both releasing on PSN and XBL for download. Other Dreamcast games have been revamped as well like Jet Set Radio which is set to release this summer.

In a recent statement from Sega it was said, “The games that were mentioned are definitely among the most requested re-releases”. We can’t go into specifics about our future releases, but we are excited to see so much passion surrounding our Dreamcast-era games.”

So with that said it looks like we can be expecting more blasts from Dreamcast’s past. The question is, what else can we expect to be brought back from the classic days of Dreamcast? I guess all we can do is watch and wait to see what will be next on the resurrection list.
