New Games Tuesday: What To Buy, What Not To Buy

Now that all the madness has settled from the quality video game sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We can get back to reality and the lack of games set to release over the next couple of months. So, let’s get started with the month of December and our first ever edition of New Games Tuesday.

There are a couple of games set to release today and those are Game of Thrones: A Telltale Series, as well as The Crew from Ubisoft. Before you take off racing to the stores to buy the crew, let us tell you why you shouldn’t waste your $60 or the gas money to go anywhere. And why you should perhaps just spend the $5 to download Game of Thrones.

The Crew is a new open world MMO racing title from Ubisoft releasing today. And yet again, much like what Ubisoft did with Assassin’s Creed Unity, they are not allowing game press outlets to release any sort of review on the game. Here’s a quote from Ubisoft’s blog as to why they didn’t do early review releases, “The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so it’s only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world. And by other, we mean thousands and thousands and thousands of players – something that can’t be simulated with a handful of devs playing alongside the press. For this very reason, The Crew will be available to media to begin their reviews when the game launches on December 2. There will be absolutely no embargo on any type of coverage once the game is available for sale.”

Are you kidding me with these bogus excuses? Does this surprise you? For me personally, I’m not shocked. After Assassin’s Creed Unity took a leap of faith with gamers and completely missed the wagon of straw, it shouldn’t surprise you either. They are hiding behind a poorly made title yet again and hoping that gamers will just support a new IP. Oh it’s an open world game it takes time to fully give a quality review, blah, blah, blah. Give me a break already. They didn’t want early reviews for AC Unity to drop because it was crap, so what makes you think The Crew will be any different?

In this giant open world racer which requires an online connection to play. The Crew supposedly allows players to drive cross country in approximately an hour with minimal load screens taking up your time. To top of this hideous open world racing game, there’s an 8 person multiplayer, and a roughly 20 hour long campaign. Sound like something you’re interested in? I thought so too until I played the beta for the game and decided it was a waste of time.

The controls are shotty, the graphics look like something a kindergartener drew up during arts and crafts time, and the car selection is quite limited. As I spent a couple hours driving around looking for a reason to like this game, I just couldn’t. The drifting in this game is awful, I get that it’s more of an arcade racer rather than a racing sim like Forza Horizon 2, but come on. I drove the Camaro and Mustang both, let me just say trying to drift in anything was like trying to turn a wide load semi at 100mph. It just wasn’t happening.

Now let’s change the subject to something that is worth your time and that’s the Game of Thrones Episode One: Iron From Ice. I just received my review code for the game today, which releases tomorrow on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PS4 SCEE, while the PC/Mac and PS4 SCEA versions all released today. I have yet to play it but, I can already tell you that it’s well worth the $4.99 to get the first episode. Why is that you ask? Well number 1, it’s made by Telltale and with their previous history of games such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and most recently Tales From The Borderlands (which you can see our very own review for by clicking here) making it hard to discard this game.

Not to mention it follows one of the hottest shows on HBO in the Game of Thrones. The setting for this series takes place during The War of the Five Kings and tells the story of House Forrester. This episode is going to take you roughly 2 hours to complete and is recommended to be done all in one sitting if possible. While, no prior knowledge of Game of Thrones is needed, it’s definitely good to have some if possible so you are familiar with the characters and prior storyline.

It’s very easy to assume that this game is going to be quite satisfying and will look beautiful. I am looking forward to spending my time with this game, rather than wasting it on The Crew. Be sure that you’re making the right decision on this fine Tuesday and buying the best game!

Ubisoft Offering Apology to Gamers, Free Games + DLC

If you bought Assassin’s Creed: Unity’s Season Pass, you will now get a choice between which free game you’ll be picking from:

  • The Crew
  • Far Cry 4
  • Watch Dogs
  • Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
  • Rayman Legends
  • Just Dance 2015
Those people who are eligible for a free game will also get the first piece of DLC for Assassin’s Creed: Unity for free. This motion is as an apology for the bugs in AC: Unity and presumably shady piece of business done in which reviews were not allowed to surface until 12 hours after the game’s public launch was achieved. Keep in mind, Ubisoft has still announced that they will not be handing down Review Copies of The Crew until after launch and that this free game + free DLC offer also means the cancelling of the AC: Unity Season Pass. There’s no word yet on if further DLC down the line for the game will cost money or not for people who accept this apology and free game / DLC.
In one sense this is a good deal because the Season Pass was cheaper than most of these games cost. However, now you’ll most likely have to be forced to buy any DLC that comes after the initial free one even though you signed up to buy a Season Pass, not another Ubisoft game discounted. Strange gesture, but it’s coming from the right place. Happy Thanksgiving Gamers! [Some Info Sourced: Ubisoft]

The Crew Has Been Delayed By Ubisoft (Again)

Gamers won’t be able to grab The Crew from Ubisoft just yet. Although I’ve done a bunch of tests alongside other RGN Staff members, we aren’t allowed to talk about our experiences with the game at this time. Ubisoft has announced today that the game will not release until December 2, 2014 at which time the Racing game that is set to take players all across the United States will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows PC worldwide.

PlayStation 4 On Track To Become Best Selling Game Console Of All Time

Do you hear about PlayStation 4?

Even those who don’t play video games know the name.

It is probably going to be the fastest and eventually highest selling video games system of all time. So far it is on track to achieve it very quickly too. The funny thing though about Sony’S PS4 is that they also have more production capability than ever before after acquirements and productions of factories took place during the Vita and PS3 Super Slim innovations made over the recent years. Not to mention the PS4 uses an APU setup from the PC Gaming world that allows manufacturing plants to operate efficiently.

So they aren’t really worth thousands like PS3 was when it was rare.

Sony can produce tons and tons of PS4’s, no problem. At least when you compare their hardware production capability to that of the past gaming generations.

The issue this generation is that the amount of buyers willing to buy at the same time is unprecedented for any one game system. Ubisoft and Sony both seem to be funding games that are going to push sales in a high direction for PS4 games.

They are also making tons of films based on games over the next 3-5 years.

Hang on, information overload. Too many sentences, not enough visual data. Let’s try something else. Consider this an experiment into the mind and, if applicable, a psychological insertion from our archives that is sure to leave the cerebral cortex tingling post-op.

ADHD Video Games History Lesson:

-1776 B.C.

Nintendo produces the Nintendo Seal of Approval and essentially invents third party exclusives as we know them today.

Because Atari was allowing shops to sell bootleg carts with Nintendo’s IPs:

And then a ton of other stuff happened….

-1001 B.C. > Then Sony’s like “bro, let’s make a Nintendo that runs on discs”.

-988 B.C. But then Nintendo’s like “nah bro, I make a lot of money off of game cartridges”.

So the PlayStation was born. Then eventually Sony took a pretty strong hold. Nintendo made a gigantic comeback. A while later Sony made some pie charts that really could help show the progress the PlayStation brand was making late into its 3rd generation… notice that Sony is taking a bite out of Nintendo!

But don’t worry, that was just to get back at them for this slap in the face of a pie chart, no seriously – it’s all about pie charts.

Forbes reports came in with 700K PS4 Units Sold in Europe and Australasia initially confirmed by Sony, and overall numbers being announced by Sony later on at over 4 million console units sold before the end of 2013. Once all numbers become tabulated, next-gen will likely go down as one of the largest, if not THE largest gaming generation of all time.

We made a little pie chart of our own (alongside alternative breakdown with guest hosts) not too long ago. But this piece is more of a focus on what’s going on in the here and now, as the Nintendo platform hopes to repair damaged momentum in their sales force and we are rooting for them.

One piece of news reports as a bit of a laugh these days “Sony’s Andrew House believes that they’ll sell 5 million PlayStation 4s by March” which basically cites their 2.1 million numbers from Dec 1, 2013 despite not launching in Arab and African markets at the time, which saw a pretty large internet celebration by South African customers and the console did successfully sell out completely as in other regions of its release.

It is safe to say that if Sony can manage to produce a number considerably larger than 5 million – they will probably be able to sell even more than that bold claim earmarks to investors, who are all but frothing at the mouth for the PS4’s sales updates.

Sony, says it best at the Japanese PlayStation Awards by naming the main factor of the PS4’s success thus far, a “Huge line of production allowed for huge sales”. Production is the key element now to maintaining sales, both of consoles to meet the overwhelming demand for PS4 next-gen gaming, but also for games to play on them.

SONY: “Since the initial announcement back in February, pre-orders for PS4 have surpassed all expectations and we continue to work hard to fulfill the remainder of these pre-orders and to deliver additional consoles to the market for the many more gamers who want a PS4.  Substantial further volumes of PS4 will arrive in the UK before Christmas.”

The Crew (Next-Gen Racing) Aims At Being One of the Biggest Racing Games Ever

The Crew is a New IP being published by Ubisoft and developed by Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections which will release some time in Early 2014 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox ONE, and Windows PC. Ubisoft recently revealed a truckload of knowledge to exactly what The Crew is and what makes it special. Many of these claims are beyond what we have experienced from the Racing genre in the past, and being that this game is strictly a Next-Gen title it should be easy for Racing fans to begin getting excited for what was announced. The following are just a few bullet points that RealGamerNewz garnered out of the presentation, but there’s likely to be much more information clarified and released about this title in the coming months so stay tuned to our Nex Gen Gaming Channel for more info and video footage as it becomes available.

  • “The Entire United States is your driving playground”
  • World is One Big Map (1 hour and a half to drive Coast 2 Coast / 7,000 Miles of Road)
  • “The Crew will take you on a journey to move up the ranks of the Five-Ten Motor Club, a gang grown around Detroit’s illegal street racing scene – making a rep for yourself and ultimately taking down their activities one region at a time.”
  • Open World Terrain With Tracks Inside (No Invisible Walls / Barriers)
  • 1,000+ Real World Landmarks
  • Tuning Specs and Performance Perks
  • Drop In / Drop Out Multiplayer, Entire Campaign is Co-Op Friendly
  • “Every car is a 19-piece puzzle that you can customize and upgrade at will as you unlock body and performance parts along your progression.”
  • “Max level cap is 50 but there is a lot planned for end game content.”
  • “Each time you enter the game world, you are notified of all your friends’ achievements that have occurred in your absence – new scores to beat, missions completed, etc.”
  • “Take that cop chase off-road and watch those cumbersome patrol cars spin out in the dirt, or maybe just hide in a corn field.”
  • Companion App: “Continue the experience on iOS, Android tablets, and on the web. Keep track of your friends’ performances and tinker with your ride before playing it live to set new records, or send your crew on jobs on-the-go to gain more XP and parts.”
