Naughty Dog teases that Uncharted The Lost Legacy may be longer than you think

In an interview with IBTimes, Naughty Dog’s Director of communications, Arne Mayer had some things to say about Uncharted The Lost Legacy’s run time. Her statement follows “Years ago, when we were asked if we were ever doing a single player expansion for Uncharted we always said, ‘Well, we don’t have the self-discipline to do that’. If we tried to do that we’d create a full game.” She continued “There’s no way we could, sort of, constrict and restrain ourselves, and that’s exactly what was happening here. When we were doing story pitches, we were coming up with a game that would be over ten hours long and so we suddenly realized everything we said was true and we couldn’t keep it short.” So this means to expect something closer to a full release, in contrast with The Left Behind DLC for the Last of Us, which was about an hour and a half. Uncharted The Lost Legacy is expected to release later this year, stay tuned at RGN for everything PlayStation.

The Uncharted 4 E3 2015 Extended Demo is Here and it’s Glorious

Naughty Dog has released the extended version of the highly talked about Uncharted 4 demo, shown at this year’s E3. The extra footage picks up (Obviously) where the previous video left, as Nathan continues his attempt to rescue his older Brother Sam from his pursuers. What follows is an action packed spectacle that puts a lot of movies to shame.

You can skip ahead to the 7:30 mark in the video if you want to get straight to the new footage. Honestly though, watching it from start to finish, makes it that much cooler.

Uncharted: A Thief’s End will release in Spring 2016 exclusively on PlayStation 4.

Todd Stashwick was Originally Nathan Drake’s Older Brother in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Fans were introduced to Nathan Drake’s older brother at the end of yesterday’s, Uncharted 4 gameplay reveal. It was then revealed by voice actor Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Shadow of Mordor) that he was in fact the voice of Drake’s big bro.

Turns out, Baker wasn’t originally set to play the mysterious Drake (If that is even his last name). Tv Actor/writer Todd Stashwick (Heroes, Supernatural) has confirmed that role was once his, when asked about it by yours truly on twitter.

Stashwick was confirmed late last year, to be the mysterious voice in the Uncharted teaser trailer and was even providing motion capture. Many speculated that he was playing the game’s main antagonist or an older Nathan Drake.

Early this year however, fans learned that he was no longer tied to the role. He is currently co-writing with former Uncharted writer, Amy Hennig for Visceral Games’ Star Wars project.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is scheduled for a 2015 release.

Collector’s Only #4 – Looking Back

In the last console generation gamers saw a flood of games that saw a collector’s edition or limited editon when they we’re released.  There so many of games of yester-gen that got this treatment that a lot of them felt tacked on to give the developers and publishers an extra SKU and few actually stood out to the gamer at large. in this edition of Collectors Only we take a look back at the games who’s collectors edition actually stood out and gave those gamers who invested the extra money something to be proud of.

Halo 3

Halo 3 arguable kicked off the Collector’s Edition crazy of last gen showing people that they can and will be successful putting the right content inside the box. The box in this case was a Master Chief helmet and included all of the items in the limited edition (extra maps, behind the scenes etc) and just look cool to put on display for all of your friends and family to bask in its glory.

The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection

Capcom did the unthinkable with the release of the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collection by packing in almost every Street Fighter ever created. It also contains Street Fighter 2 the animated movie and the Street Fighter IV movie, the complete soundtrack, a black belt, an art book and a certificate of authenticity this is a must own for any street fighter fan.

Infamous 2 Hero Edition/Uncharted 2 Among Thieves/The Last Of Us

Sony made sure that they give their fans a lot of bang for their gaming buck in these collector’s editions with Infamous 2, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us. There is so much content, and extra goodies in these collector’s edition that make it almost mandatory to buy them at launch or lose out on the bragging rights to those who did.

The Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was a massive gem of last generation that threw gamers into the unfamiliar region of Tamriel  and into an adventure unlike any we’ve seen before. The Collector’s Edition of Skyrim gave gamers a Behind-The-Scenes look at the development of the game, a quality art book, steelbook, Dovahkiin Dragon Statue and a leather-esque map of Skyrim not available in the standard edition.

Batman Arkham: Series

The Collector’s Editions for the Batman Arkham series has got better with each entry into the series. The teams at Rocksteady, Eidos, and WB Games has packed each collector’s set with statues, DLC, memorabilia, movies and more; leaving gamers to wonder what Batman Arkham Knight will contain in its collector’s edition.

Grand Theft Auto: V Collector’s Edition

Grand Theft Auto: V was the last GTA game on last gen consoles and its collector’s edition trumped the previous entries which also had an impressive package of its own. RGN fan may remember when I unboxed this marvel but in you cased you missed the video you can check it out here. Rockstar games packed this beauty with a Collector’s Edition “Los Santos” fitted cap, a bank envelope and key, a blueprint map along with Collector’s Edition DLC and steelbook of the game.

Mortal Kombat 9 Kollector’s Edition/Tournament Edition

Netherrealm Studios and WB Games made magic when they released MK9 last gen and they believed in the title so much that they not only released a Kollector’s Edition with a limited edition statue but a Tournament Edition with a limited edition fight stick as well. The game did so well that the tournament edition sold out before the game even launched prompting the developer to re-release the MK9 fight stick with the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection.

Super Mario All Star’s 25th Anniversary Edition/ Super Mario Bros 25th Collector’s Edition Wii Console Bundle

Nintendo pulled out all the stops for the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros, starting the re-release of Super Mario All Star’s which contained all three of the original Super Mario Bros games as well as the “Secret Levels”. The game also came with a collector’s booklet detailing Mario’s history and CD soundtrack with music from the entire Mario franchise. Nintendo didn’t stop there as they then released an all red Wii console bundle complete with a all-red Wii-Motion plus Wii-mote as well as Wii Sports and Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Developers and publishers went all out for the games last year and this list is only all small portion of games that had a Collector’s or Limited edition package. There where more games that had a collector’s edition last gen than all of the previous gen combined, now the question is will this gen lived up to the legacy? We hope you have enjoyed this edition of “Collector’s Only” and if didn’t see your favorite games collector’s edition on the list leave us a comment below.

Rumor: Leaked Info Regarding Sony’s E3 Conference: The Order, Uncharted, God of War and More

According to Dualshockers, info in regards to Sony’s E3 press conference has been shared with them today from a reliable source. E3 is just under one month away, so clearly one can expect rumors regarding the event to surface but DS claims they were able to confirm parts of it with second source, adding some credibility to it. The detailed info in bold are double sourced and hold more weight but as always take it all in with a grain of salt.

  • Uncharted PS4 3 Minute Trailer showcasing ”In-engine” footage interspersed with gameplay segments. Visuals are supposedly unprecedented and set a benchmark for console graphics. Summer 2015 release date. It looks absolutely stellar. Features tropical setting and differing time periods with Nate/Francis.
  • Media Molecule’s new title will be a landmark title for Morpheus. 3D world building, beautiful, quirky visuals.Extremely creative and fun. Possibly related to the ”Entwined” trademark filed last week by SCE (not sure). Late 2015.
  • Gran Turismo 6 is coming to PS4 as 1080p 60FPS repackaged title in the vein of Gran Turismo 7: Prologue. Stunning visuals, extra features (social connectivity, new tracks, dlc etc). Coming mid-late 2015.
  • God of War 4 teaser will be present – will be CG with snippets of in-engine footage. A little early for reveal, but is designed to offset negativity surrounding canceled new IP and generate excitement – also to partially offset CG announce of Gears of War at Microsoft presser. Late 2015. Date wont be announced.
  • Kill Strain trademark is related to Syphon Filter reboot for PS4. Sony Bend working on revamping the franchise. Stealth, beautiful visuals and a possible Winter 2014 title. Bend finally getting to join the big boys.
  • Wipeout is also making the transition to PS4. Source is unsure of who is developing it, but hints that it could be Sony London, Evolution, or Firesprite.
  • Quantic Dream has a trailer prepared – unsure whether it is penciled in for Gamescom or E3. Sony will be watching Microsoft’s presser earlier in the day to gauge whether additional titles will need to be slotted in to dampen hype. Expect Dark Sorcerer- like visuals in real time. Off-topic, but still relevant – they are close to deal to become a Worldwide Studios developer, along with Ready At Dawn.
  • Speaking of Ready At Dawn, The Order:1886 will get a stage demo. Big title for Fall 2014.  Sony is expecting great things from said title – franchise hopes rest on its performance.
  • Ninja Theory working on a PS4 exclusive – possible Heavenly Sword sequel which was shelved a number of years ago. Quite far into development.
  • Sony London will be at E3. First AAA title in many years. 3rd person title. Gorgeous. They’re back with a bang,
  • Guerrilla Games bringing their RPG to E3. Provocative setting – very interesting. Insane visuals as usual. A good reaction to the title is expected. Will please the hardcore.
  • Sucker Punch busy at work on an inFAMOUS: Second Son DLC. Really cool. New powers. Possible new setting. E3 debut.
  • Sony Japan Studios debuting two, maybe even three titles. Project Beast – spiritual successor to Demon Souls. The other is The Last Guardian. Retooled for PS4, possible Winter 2014 title. The Other title is shrouded in secrecy.
  • Evolution will give Driveclub some time in the limelight. It’s shaping up to be incredible with jaw-dropping visuals. Demo release will be timed with  the press conference.

Publishers are also expected to take the stage according to this anonymous source; including Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Konami, Capcom, Warner Bros, Activision, Square Enix, Take Two and Rockstar with Grand Theft Auto ( PS4 port of GTA V maybe?).

Sony’s Virtual Reality project, Project Morpheus will be showcased. The digital rental service PlayStation Now will be re-introduced, big titles will be announced for the Instant Game Collection and PS3 and PS Vita will receive price drops.

There will be a montage for the PS3 and a reveal of a few new titles for it. The PS Vita will also receive a small segment as PS4 is the main attraction. Sevral smaller scale (Most likely indie) digital titles will be shown and the conference will be closed out with, wait for it…. a teaser for a sequel to The Last of Us.

If any of this delicious info holds any weight, then Sony fans are in for a real treat. Here’s hoping its all true, or at least the bit about The Last of Us sequel, Uncharted, God of War 4, The Order: 1886 and PS Now. Those are what I’m most excited for, what about you?

Creative Vision Behind Star Wars 1313 To Live On Through Amy Hennig / Visceral Games?

Uncharted series Writer and ex-Naughty Dog Creative Director Amy Hennig (who switched over to the dark side peacefully in a recent job change) will be creating a new Star Wars game with Visceral Games under the EA Games label for new rights owner Disney who will lay the responsibility of a new Star Wars Battlefront among other upcoming products upon publisher EA Games and some of their development studios including DICE (who are working on the next Battlefront game).

But what exactly are Amy Hennig and Visceral Games up to in the long term?

Reports are hitting today (mainly based on job listings) that put Amy Hennig in the spotlight again and claim that the project she is working on for the Star Wars universe will have extremely high fidelity graphics and a cinematic action blend of gameplay that many expect to resemble the Uncharted series in its fluidity from moment to moment as well as dynamic levels. Some of you may remember an RGN Podcast Discussing SW1313’s Indefinite Hold Situation. There has been a petition going on Change.org for EA and Disney to finish Star Wars 1313 (Over 8,200 signatures at the time of this writing).

For those who are having a hard time seeing significance in whether or not Amy Hennig / Visceral Games are working on Star Wars 1313 or a new game based on that, keep in mind that the same technology behind the cinematic feel of the unfinished Star Wars 1313 project is advanced and being used in future films. Before the LucasArts closure, the game was shown with a few small but effective scenes that were completely fleshed out and actually existed in final product build quality.

Take a look at the video below, and get hype. This Rumor seems like the best possible scenario, but in the least we can say that the teams working on Star Wars games for EA, Disney, and the fans will be surely influenced by the Star Wars 1313 project and what it represented to gamers.

Former Uncharted Writer Amy Hennig Teams with Visceral Games on Star Wars Project

As we saw early last month Amy Hennig left Naughty Dog. For those of you wondering where she may end up you can now wonder no longer! According to EA’s statement:

“Over the last few weeks, Amy and I have spent a lot of time talking about what her first project would be. There are a lot of different directions we could have gone, but I could sense that what really excited her about this opportunity (because let’s face it, we weren’t the only ones knocking at her door) was Star Wars. Amy’s a huge fan. We happen to be making a Star Wars game. Just thinking about the possibilities made both of us even more excited about having her join the team.”

Naughty Dog claims that Amy was not forced out as it was originally speculated. Amy is now working on an upcoming Star Wars game as the Creative Director. Amy cna be seen posting on her Twitter in excitement towards the new job.

Currently EA has multiple Star Wars Projects so we can only guess which one she is put on. Right now we know of the upcoming Battlefront sequel and a possible open world Sci-fi game. It is not clear which one Amy is in charge of and we will have to let more time expire before we will finally know.

PlayStation 4 On Track To Become Best Selling Game Console Of All Time

Do you hear about PlayStation 4?

Even those who don’t play video games know the name.

It is probably going to be the fastest and eventually highest selling video games system of all time. So far it is on track to achieve it very quickly too. The funny thing though about Sony’S PS4 is that they also have more production capability than ever before after acquirements and productions of factories took place during the Vita and PS3 Super Slim innovations made over the recent years. Not to mention the PS4 uses an APU setup from the PC Gaming world that allows manufacturing plants to operate efficiently.

So they aren’t really worth thousands like PS3 was when it was rare.

Sony can produce tons and tons of PS4’s, no problem. At least when you compare their hardware production capability to that of the past gaming generations.

The issue this generation is that the amount of buyers willing to buy at the same time is unprecedented for any one game system. Ubisoft and Sony both seem to be funding games that are going to push sales in a high direction for PS4 games.

They are also making tons of films based on games over the next 3-5 years.

Hang on, information overload. Too many sentences, not enough visual data. Let’s try something else. Consider this an experiment into the mind and, if applicable, a psychological insertion from our archives that is sure to leave the cerebral cortex tingling post-op.

ADHD Video Games History Lesson:

-1776 B.C.

Nintendo produces the Nintendo Seal of Approval and essentially invents third party exclusives as we know them today.

Because Atari was allowing shops to sell bootleg carts with Nintendo’s IPs:

And then a ton of other stuff happened….

-1001 B.C. > Then Sony’s like “bro, let’s make a Nintendo that runs on discs”.

-988 B.C. But then Nintendo’s like “nah bro, I make a lot of money off of game cartridges”.

So the PlayStation was born. Then eventually Sony took a pretty strong hold. Nintendo made a gigantic comeback. A while later Sony made some pie charts that really could help show the progress the PlayStation brand was making late into its 3rd generation… notice that Sony is taking a bite out of Nintendo!

But don’t worry, that was just to get back at them for this slap in the face of a pie chart, no seriously – it’s all about pie charts.

Forbes reports came in with 700K PS4 Units Sold in Europe and Australasia initially confirmed by Sony, and overall numbers being announced by Sony later on at over 4 million console units sold before the end of 2013. Once all numbers become tabulated, next-gen will likely go down as one of the largest, if not THE largest gaming generation of all time.

We made a little pie chart of our own (alongside alternative breakdown with guest hosts) not too long ago. But this piece is more of a focus on what’s going on in the here and now, as the Nintendo platform hopes to repair damaged momentum in their sales force and we are rooting for them.

One piece of news reports as a bit of a laugh these days “Sony’s Andrew House believes that they’ll sell 5 million PlayStation 4s by March” which basically cites their 2.1 million numbers from Dec 1, 2013 despite not launching in Arab and African markets at the time, which saw a pretty large internet celebration by South African customers and the console did successfully sell out completely as in other regions of its release.

It is safe to say that if Sony can manage to produce a number considerably larger than 5 million – they will probably be able to sell even more than that bold claim earmarks to investors, who are all but frothing at the mouth for the PS4’s sales updates.

Sony, says it best at the Japanese PlayStation Awards by naming the main factor of the PS4’s success thus far, a “Huge line of production allowed for huge sales”. Production is the key element now to maintaining sales, both of consoles to meet the overwhelming demand for PS4 next-gen gaming, but also for games to play on them.

SONY: “Since the initial announcement back in February, pre-orders for PS4 have surpassed all expectations and we continue to work hard to fulfill the remainder of these pre-orders and to deliver additional consoles to the market for the many more gamers who want a PS4.  Substantial further volumes of PS4 will arrive in the UK before Christmas.”

Top 5 Best Looking PlayStation 3 Exclusive Games

#5: Killzone 3

While KZ2 took the approach of dark and dreary, Killzone 3 added a new palette of colors to the high-resolution formula Guerrilla Games introduced and maintained a level of polish that kept PS3 in the headlines even as current-gen hardware began to age. This game earns its spot in blood as it even keeps the same graphical integrity in its multiplayer mode.

#4: Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time

Many people may write off the Ratchet series since its art direction is not realism, but what has been witnessed in this title is simply one of the best looking games on PS3 hands down.

#3: Uncharted 2

Despite the gameplay, Uncharted 2 was one of those games that had people walking away saying they felt like they just saw a movie and remains to this day one of the most impressive uses of the PS3 hardware graphically.

#2: Gran Turismo 5

With over 200,000 polygons for a single car GT5 produced some of the most hyper-realistic graphics the racing simulation genre has seen on the PlayStation 3 with many clamoring to see what Polyphony Digital can do with Sony’s PS4 hardware next.

#1: God Of War III

Despite having a successor title named Ascension GOW III has managed to remain the best looking PlayStation 3 game to date with the one-two combination of incredibly detailed graphics paired with smooth and vivid animations causing so much action to be seen on-screen at a time that the behemoth set pieces and even environmental hazards such as entire monsters being a level in and of themselves are simply unbeatable on PS3.

The Last of Us Street Date Broken: For Sale Early in Canada

Reports have come in that gamers in Canada can now get their hands on The Last of Us PlayStation 3 Exclusive from the creators of the Uncharted series. A number of gaming outlets are re-sharing this, however the original props goes directly to Reddit where you can find the entire story. If retailers are caught selling games ahead of the date then they may be fined up to a very large amount.

Corporate Gamestop as well as mom-and-pop shops have been guilty of this illegal but mostly beloved underground industry practice typically with titles like the annually anticipated Call of Duty series by Activision. Naughty Dog once said they were out for the big dogs, and this is definitely another monumental moment on their journey and testament to their triumph carving out a new for themselves with creating vivid New IP’s like The Last of Us and Uncharted.
