The Darksiders games were once the property of publisher THQ, before the company filed for bankruptcy. Nordic Games later acquired the the rights to the series.

“We took over the franchise roughly 2 years ago and thought about the next chapter for Darksiders ever since then. Naturally (and extremely excitedly!), there will be a large-scale project based on Darksiders, but for now it is very important for us to take care of the existing games and make those available to a broader audience. Bringing Darksiders 2 to current gen was a logical step for us and the team at Gunfire Games know their trade inside-out, so we easily and quickly had lots of ideas that we wanted to realise for this specific edition,” explains Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games.

Gunfire Games are handling the development of the Deathinitive Edition. Almost half of their staff are former workers at Vigil Games, the studio who orginally developed the Darksiders games.

“It feels good to be working on Darksiders again, after a couple of years of hiatus”, comments David Adams, founder and president of Gunfire Games. “This project is a great opportunity for us to pick up where we left off two years ago and dig deeper into the game, which is close to all our hearts. Bringing the definitive Darksiders 2 experience to life is something that we hope a lot of people will enjoy and look forward to.”

Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition will release this winter for PS4 and Xbox One.

This War of Mine Dev Responds to Piracy in a Surprising and Positive Way

The pirating of video games is something both developers and publishers dread. It results in the loss of potential revenue for both parties; a smaller paycheck for the publishers and an even smaller check for the developers, the ones who put their blood, sweat and tears into making these games. Due to this, it is unsurprising when the companies voice their displeasure, and take anti-piracy measures — sometimes at the expense of paying customers.

What is surprising however, is the anti-piracy measure taken by 11 bit studios, the developer behind the newly released and well received This War of Mine. Instead of getting hostile, or removing a feature from their game in order to point out those who illegally download it, one of the team members Karol, left an unexpected comment on a Pirate Bay post for the plunderers of pixels. You can read it below in this screenshot a use uploaded to imgur.com.

As you can see, Karol’s positive approach and showing that the studio understands (Free game codes helped), why some feel like they have no choice but to pirate games, resulted in some equally positive replies. One member has apparently given up their life of crime on the internet, while another has purchased the game because the studios “awesome attitude”. A third member seemingly convinced two of his or her friends to purchase the title, after trying it.

The Author’s personal take:

It seems 11 bit studios way of handling pirates may have been a success for them. Other studios should take note and try to find a more positive way of dealing with the piracy situation. If all they do is piss of the pirates, then they’ll just continue to download their games illegally and out of spite. But if they set about it in a more positive light then maybe, a few more will stop, actually buy the games and if they like them, then word of mouth will spread and result in more purchases.

Remember negativity only breads more negativity. It is better to be positive because a little bit goes a long way, as they say.

This War of Mine is out now for PC, Android and iOS. You can read our review, and see why our reviewer Chris, called it “easily one of the best of 2014”.

This War of Mine Review

This (little) War of Mine is going to shine. This War of Mine is a game with a bold concept, not all people in wars are soldiers. This actually a fact that is easily looked over by many, but this title tries to kick you swiftly for that thought. As the game is beautiful, it’s depressing, it’s fun, and it’s a real challenge. I didn’t find it very difficult to get sucked in to This War of Mine, as I played it all day Veteran’s Day and have accumulated some hours on it since receiving my code. It’s a game that has intrigued me for many reasons, I did not get to test the preview that was given out a few months ago sadly, but I am very happy with what I have been playing. This War of Mine is a point and click survival game, but the point and click does not exactly do it any justice. It’s an addictive game with a great story, great mechanics, beautiful music, and a hell of a point.

When I think about point and click the first this come sin to my mind isn’t very good. To me it hinders the experience as a whole, but for This War of Mine, it’s not true. The game play of feels very different from other games with every aspect in place. We have survival, stealth, fighting, and running. These are blended together for a rather great experience. Not only do you have to struggle with your morality choices, but so do your characters. I remember going to the church, sneaking in, and seeing “Oh my God, when will this end??” thinking it was a prisoner of the men in the church. When I saw that the basement looked like a cell, I decided to investigate, I was then greeted with an armed guard who demanded that I go no further as the area was restricted. So, I killed him thinking this was some sort of rape dungeon, his body fell from the top of the ladder down to the basement.

What I got next was a family running to him and crying…. oops. Anyway, this decision did not only make me feel bad, it made my character depressed. This caused me to monitor them and have my other characters talk them through it on a daily basis, of course these characters talked bad about them behind their back though. So you have to be careful about your actions outside of your home and inside of it. You need to fortify your base, build things, upgrade things, and maintain your food supply. You need materials to do all of these things and of course, every time you leave you run the risk of not coming back. You run the risk of also being raided and losing supplies as well. It’s a hard game to juggle as you need to be very careful to survive. It seems as if you can only have 4 survivors at a time though and if one dies a new one will conveniently come a few days later. It is interesting to sit through the day and see what happens, as trader and survivors asking for help can knock at your door.

Just trying to  survive

The story of the game isn’t really a big deal. As the player makes it their own, they still have some present throughout the game. What’s mostly interesting is that the game is randomly generated. The church I mentioned above was my first playthrough, on my 2nd playthrough it was extremely different. The church wasn’t fully developed and had scaffolding everywhere, it also did not have the friendly group, it was taken by bandits who had tortured and murdered the pastor. So not only are the encounters changed up, but so is the layout of the map. It makes the replayability of the game shoot up drastically, as now you have to guess who will be there, what you will need, and if it’s worth the risk.

While I do love this, I do wish they had more diverse destinations, as they only seem to be different variations of the locations. One thing I will note though is that your style of play with drastically change as well. These places will also have different supplies now as well and that will decide what you build and when. It will decide what you absolutely need as well, but luckily if you can’t find something you can try your chances with the trader who comes on random days. The biggest thing is building what you need and getting what you want, but the things you sometimes want turn in to needs. Alcohol and tobacco may seem like nothing, but they make good trading items and you can make medical supplies with the alcohol. It’s hard to put out suggestions when everything you will need to do is practically randomly generated.

R.I.P. Marko

This War of Mine only has a few issues though, it doesn’t explain the combat, the character’s blink weirdly (hard to explain), the character’s also jump from thought to thought, and it’s areas could be more diverse, from playthrough to playthrough they are the same general locations, even if they are different variants. It still remains addictive despite these issues though. I have played it about 7 hours a day since I have gotten the game, it’s just that good. This game is certain to capture the hearts of many players with the way it is designed, the way it plays, the music behind it, and the moral of the story. It’s highly addictive and it drives one hell of a point home to the players. War isn’t only about the soldiers who participate in them, there are many people caught in between the conflicts. I have yet to actually beat the game, but I can’t imagine it ending well. This War of Mine is not only a great experience, but it’s a helpful one as it somewhat gives you the feeling of being caught in this situation.

Final Verdict:

This War of Mine isn’t anything short of a masterpiece. They get such a great point across to the player and they do it so well. It’s not something that is so in your face that you can’t enjoy the game, instead it comes across while you are enjoying the game. It shows through the faces, dialogue, and through the actions of your characters. If you want a great indie game, this is easily one of the best of 2014 as of now. It’s drives home a point that many try to avoid thinking about and it does it so enjoyably.

Note: 11 Bit Studios has also taken it upon themselves to do their best and help out by partnering with War Child, a charity which provides assistance to children in areas experiencing conflict or caught in the after math. You can actually find a link directly on the menu of the game as well.

Rumor: Xbox ONE Has Just as Many Pre-Orders As PlayStation 4

According to recent statements from PR & Marketing representatives at Microsoft, Xbox ONE is around the same amount of pre-orders when comparing only the amount of PS4’s pre-ordered within the 13 counties Xbox ONE is launching in. During the PlayStation 3 era we’ve seen a similar strategy used for many years by forum jockeys to sway the ‘fanboy wars’ in the direction of the Xbox 360.

Today Microsoft has reminded gamers worldwide that although the media and public consensus may have shifted towards Sony, the Xbox brand is not going to place itself on unequal ground for statistic comparisons and will probably not bother comparing itself to PS4 including those numbers until their  new Xbox ONE product has actually launched in those products.

On the one hand this is a pretty logical and dry statement for MS to make (how would you compare points in a video game between somebody that’s not on your server and you, after all?). Of course there are some who have been reacting to this news a little differently, suggesting that Microsoft is just doing damage control with their PR speech.

The controversy doesn’t end there either. New data from Australia’s commercial sector shows the average consumer aiming for either a Nintendo Wii U, an Xbox ONE, or a Sony PlayStation 4 are significantly slanted towards the PlayStation 4. In many ways this argument of who has the higher pre-orders is a topic for shareholders and investors, not one for gamers. We encourage all gamers to play what they like regardless of how something is doing in the market. Take a look at a graph representing the data that’s being reported on below, as well as a source to more information behind it.

Unreal Engine To Be Used In Latest Military Training VR Simulation by Intelligent Decisions

As many gamers in the world are aware, video games are not the only application for such high-end 3D environment engines as the Unreal Engine. The Simulation industry is a booming one and includes some of the worlds’ largest customers including defense contractors and government agencies throughout the country. Video Games may be the front-end of this biz, but believe that these virtual worlds aren’t only being created for your enjoyment.

The fact is that the military also uses them in virtual reality simulations purposed for various training exercises including many specialized mission ‘rehearsals’ and more. The latest announcement from Epic Games today details the newest of those simulations which involves virtual reality gear as well as the use of the Unreal Engine as a company called Intelligent Decisions has joined the ongoing Unreal Government Network project. You can find more information about the Unreal Government Network (or UGN for short) at the following website: http://virtualheroes.com/products/unreal-government-network-ugn. Here’s what Jerry Heneghan, Licensing Manager for the UGN had to say about today’s announcement:

“ID consistently leads the simulation industry with its end-to-end customized virtual training programs and the adaptation of wearable device integration for training and mission rehearsal.”

Tristans Twisted World: Mass Effect 3 Synthesis ending

This ending is probably the least popular among the core fan base of this game. It sees all life somehow magically changed into a new framework a new DNA where there no organics and synthetics anymore everyone is the same. It even appears to me that the galaxy seems to be brainwashed cause if Wreav is still alive even he now is a good guy. This could be because there’s no reason to fight but it should not change who you are it seems stupid to even consider that. It has been seen that synthetics and organics can be peaceful without this option. For example EDI is a Normandy computer that puts her self in a machine body but is not hostile and will obey Shepard and fight the Reapers to the death. If you manage the Geth and Quarians to be union on Rannoch which is hard to do unless you took all right steps but in this case they are working together once again and it seemed to working to me despite the logic of the Catalyst being. The future of the galaxy seems to be simply peaceful but what does peace mean to a cold AI?
